Date Done Field - Ability to Update Date
Kimiko Harris
I would love the ability to update the "Date Done" field for the times where you forget to either move the status to Complete or you forgot to create your task and are going back and creating them to show the work you've done.

Hi all - circling back here, I wanted to provide a workaround via Automations in the interim while this feature is not yet available. Here are the steps, and I'm including a screenshot of the automation you'll want to create.
- Create a Date Custom Field, which you can call whatever you'd like, e.g., "Date Done - Manual"
- Set up an Automation in the location(s) of your choice as shown in the screenshot. This will automatically set the "Date Done - Manual" field to the system generated "Date Done", but since it is a Custom Field, you can then manually override it if need be.
Hope this helps!

This just bit me. Forgot to change a few dates until Jul 1st, and now they're stuck showing as completed this quarter instead of last.
Could we please get the ability to backdate or edit dates completed or dates done?

Caroline Ginty Thanks very much! I'm having trouble getting any dashboard cards pick up a custom date field. I assume the modification to allow that is more difficult than the editable done date.
Is there any particular amount of up votes that would help get this added into the planned part of the roadmap?
Appreciate your help!

Caroline Ginty - Do you happen to know if there is a fix so that I can use the custom date fields in Dashboard Cards? It seams like I am limited to the default date started / date done / date completed dates to make dashboards. Currently it looks like my only option is to export the data and use a different dashboard tool.

Dan Kerbs Mathew Watson - Can you please provide some more details on what types of dashboard cards you're trying to use it in and what kind of report you're trying to show? Many of our custom cards allow use of custom date fields - like Custom Bar, Pie, and Battery charts.
Dan Kerbs
Lily Chan That certainly helps to some degree! Can the same be done with line charts?
Lily Chan
Dan Kerbs: Not currently possible with line charts, but please vote on this canny request for that: https://clickup.canny.io/feature-requests/p/line-chart-allow-more-date-options-for-x-axis-value
Thank you!

Lily Chan, good to know, thanks! My main limitation that I ran into was with Line Charts & Sprint cards like Lead time & Cycle Time. I can't use those at all. Additionally Gantt view is not useful to me without being able to use custom field dates for accurate data.
Lily Chan
Mathew Watson: For lead time and cycle time, these cards are automatically calculated based on dates when tasks go from active to done/closed status, or created date to done/closed, depending on your selections in the card settings. These dates are automatically accounted for. Does this meet your criteria, or is there still a gap here?
Also, if you haven't already, please also vote on this canny request for more date options for the x-axis value of line charts: https://clickup.canny.io/feature-requests/p/line-chart-allow-more-date-options-for-x-axis-value
Thank you!

Lily Chan, I think the issue is the same as the core feature request here on this thread. There are use cases in our workflow where people start working on a task but don't update the task on time or complete a task but don't update it in time. This makes the date created, start date and date done data not accurate for reports.
So while ClickUp reports does automatically account for date created, start date and date done fields, the main issue is that I can't trust the data if I am unable to fix/edit dates on an as need basis.
An alternative solution would be to allow for custom field dates to be used in reporting. My workaround right now is to create a custom field date that is editable for date created, start dates and done dates so I can fix errors when I need to, however, my own custom field dates cannot be used in clickup reports, so I have to resort to export the data to another reporting tool to get accurate reporting.
Hope this helps, happy to clarify anything if needed.

Mathew Watson: I see! Thank you - this is helpful context. I've created this separate FR for Dashboards here. Please vote to follow. Thank you!

Caroline Ginty "Date done" should also appear inside the task/subtask itself and not just as a field in the list view.
Dan Kerbs
This is critical for importing tasks from another platform.

This is definitely a needed feature to keep accurate reporting on actual task duration. There are cases when team members are completing work but not updating the task to "done" till a later date. This could also affect calculations on due dates for tasks that had a dependency on the now done task.

Just discovered Date Done and wish I could edit it so that I can correct the dates.
Caroline Ginty
Thanks Kimiko Harris! The request definitely makes sense. Do you also have use cases for 'overriding' other standard date fields, like Date Created, or is it limited to Date Done?
Beth
Caroline Ginty: I would love to see this option as well! As for additional use cases for overriding other standard date fields - yes. I have a lot of data that I've imported for a client and the "Date Created" field defaulted to the date I did the import - I would like to be able to override that to the actual date.
Dan Kerbs
Caroline Ginty Date created would also be useful, but modifying the existing Date Done field is definitely the most valuable.
We're going to convert from another platform, but I have metric reporting directives that I have to maintain and won't work without this functionality.
Caroline Ginty
Dan Kerbs: Appreciate the feedback! Posting a higher level comment here with a workaround for anyone who is interested until we support manual overrides for Date Done.
