Databases and relationships
Ricardo
Hi,
ClickUp is in the right way, but it lacks of something very usefull: DATABASES, as in Notion. In fact that's the one of the most powerfull options of Notion.
You can see it as a list of tasks (rows/records) with fields (columns). Then you can create new lists/tables/databases based on that data, related to that data, filtered by fields/columns...
Once you have worked with databases, you know the very necessity of it.

Pipefy has this functionality and even allows you to create several DATABASES with custom fields.
For example, in the Customer DATABASE, you can create the personalized e-mail field and which one to list that customer who needs to send e-mail, the system automatically recognizes the registered e-mail and sends it.
For recurring e-mail sending processes or other automations, it is necessary to register the same information over and over again.

I thought Clickup list view already acts as a database, especially with the ability to create custom task types and call the 'record' any name, and link it to other lists (ie tables). It reminds me of creating Airtable tables. What am I missing? What other functionality does a database/Notion have that is not available in Clickup? Genuinely interested to know as I'm exploring using Clickup as my database (moving from Airtable)

Hetal main issue is, the data isn't pulled automatically. So for instance, I have a project and I link to customer. The customer's information doesn't automatically, (pull, show up, or get added to the project). All that happens is, it shows there's a "link". You then would have to see the link to get the information you need.
I'm thinking of moving TO airtable for that reason, so hope this helps.

Long overdue, would make creating tasks easy if there was a dropdown list of task suggestions/database

I've been hanging out over on Notion app, realizing if Clickup had the power to create databases in docs similar to Notion, it would be a kick A$$ app. Conversely, if Notion had task management and automations similar to Clickup, it too would be Kick A$$. I guess whoever gets to it first wins? Since I already have everything set up in Clickup, my vote is for Clickup to incorporate databases. YES?

Only reason as to why I'm not using the docs feature as yet.
Add this, and I won't have any reason to use notion

RELATIONSHIPS being used in same way MONDAY.com has its CONNECT & MIRROR Columns.
This means can have 1 source of data, which can then be pulled into other Lists, so save duplication and error data.
Then create a Dashboard based on the data from a LIST and using a RELATIONSHIP LIST add additional data or categorising the data.
Again to save duplication.
Huge flaw in my opinion, hence I am not moving from Monday.com yet.

I don't understand why databases and working with relationships in Clickup is almost impossible. That is why people sometimes prefer Notation or Airtable rather than Clickup and I'm thinking about change myself from clickup to this kind of platforms.
I see ridicolous requests granted while the main features are forgotten.
That is the risk when you try do what people request... People don't know what they want!

I would like if they can implement this in docs in the same way notion does along with block level tagging, custom relelationships and backlinks.
I hope they implement this at some time in the future

Good. It would be impressive to be able to count on real relationships like those in Notion.
When you create relationships to other lists, in Notion you can also use that relationship field to filter, to group, to order, but in ClickUp the relationship field is somewhat useless, practically for relating information, little else.
It would already be impressive if it had the power that Notion has with databases. Getting rid of tools and applications is, in theory, the vision of ClickUp.
Hopefully it will arrive soon.

can't believe this item is still open in 2023 lol. This is driving me crazy
