customize task layout

task layout is currently frozen and wooden. i need it to fit my application. specifically:
--let me change label of Task Name field. eg, Contact Name, Company Name, Product Name, etc.
--have no need for the Description Field. either let me hide it or move it to the bottom.
--let me move all fields around, not just custom fields. let me put them in any order i want to facilitate data entry.

Really need to be able to add an Alias to the 'Name' field! Otherwise users don't know what is meant by the 'Name' field, and it becomes a nightmare in formulas and rollups trying to figure out which 'Name' field to use. Some alias examples that I want to be able to put for the 'Name' field, depending on the list: 'Position Title', 'Client', and 'Project'.

I think that customizing the task layout would be GREAT!!!
Agree with Lee Salzman's needs! Let'us hide sections we don't need or let us move them around (also the custom fields section that should be used from the list view but you wouldn't have it inside the task)
I believe that everything within the tasks should be 100% customizable and that it should also be editable through templates, even by selecting multiple tasks at once.

What I would really like in 3.0 task view is the possibility to set the Subtask Left Sidebar as open by default and, accordingly, the Action Right Column (close by default, for example). Maybe also customize their position (actions on the left, subtask on the right if I want).
And the ability to sort the sections right under the description: for example Subtasks first, then Details and then Action Element.

It would be nice if we could customize the detail view of a task screen. Ex: If I make a few different custom text fields and I want the to show up in a specific order for task Management. It would be nice to be able to customize how that shows in the detail screen layout. This would also be a key feature of setting up different 'task types' so if you wanted to have an "Epic" task type vs a feature task vs a user story vs a normal task.
