Custom naming or setup of the first column

With the task lists it always starts with text.
I would love the ability to customise the first, left hand side list with whatever i want eg. making it a date colum for example or a tick (check) box.
Therefore instead of having a text only box on the left (or first column) i can have that column be a DATE first box then the descriptive - it makes it easier like having a spreadsheet with date order numbering first column
