It would be very useful to be able to take a Custom Field (that I brought over from 1.0) and move it onto a List or a Space instead.
I think my "issue" is related. Managing custom fields is now really hard to do so. Can't seem to move Workspace fields into space fields. Also cant select custom fields on everything view without the need of adding them to all spaces then. That does not make sense. https://clickup.canny.io/bugs/p/everything-view-filter-on-custom-fields
I agree, I tried to delete a custom fields from a certain list, but it would delete it for all lists where they are used. It would be great to be able to customize visibility of custom fields per space, folder, list
@Piere Becher: I had that same issue. It's odd that if I want to remove a custom field from one list it will delete the custom field from all other locations.
I suggest a new feature for Custom Field Templates as the way to go! Mimic statuses and their templates.
In the post titled: Create Templates for Custom Fields, I also suggested that custom fields are independent in each list instead of hard-linked between lists. But using Custom Field Templates, you can still effectively copy custom fields to new list. Just more options now.
I think that all custom fields should be instantiated on the list that they are used on (belong to that list) no matter what level they are defined on. this would take care of my problem of moving list between spaces and wanting to have some list without the space level custom fields
@Tebby Wafer: I believe the lower the level in the hierarchy should be able to override the higher level. While the higher level offers its instance by default.
I've found this request for an Airtable-like approach which might tackle all of the different comments in this request https://clickup.canny.io/feature-requests/p/spreadsheet-csv-view
Now that we have "Link to other ClickUp tasks" for Custom Fields, please also add "mirror" custom fields data, from that particular linked task, into other lists or spaces, or as Monday.com describes it:
"The Mirror Column (...) allow you to see and edit information on other boards. This means that you can easily view data from one board in another board! Not only that, but you can edit the information in either board and the changes will be reflected in both boards." https://support.monday.com/hc/en-us/articles/360001733859-The-Mirror-Column
Use Case Example: Using ClickUp as an ATS (Applicant Tracking System) or CRM and linking client/candidate/customer data to another space:
If using as an ATS, you would link your application space with the volunteer space. In this case, an animal shelter has an Application space and a Current Volunteer space. In the Application, volunteers need to share how many hours they are available per week. By using the Mirror column I can add this information to the Current Volunteers space.
@Rudolf Nanne: This is in the pipeline!
I don't think they should "live" in any of these places. Custom fields should be attachable/detachable from any of these locations. And even if you remove them from the only place they're attached to, you should get to decide if that custom field is deleted or not. That way you don't have to get tangled up when trying to reorganize.
@Mike Stop Continues: THANK YOU!!! Geez, so confusing having them live in multiple places. Just have a custom field library and allow any space, list, etc. to pull from that list.
@Zeb @Ivan Villa 🖕This is exactly what we need to tackle all of the different comments in this request💪
@Mike Stop Continues: Yes!
@Darren Litchfield: This is in the works! 🙂
@Nick: which execution? As @Rudolf Nanne mentioned or as @Mike Stop Continues mentioned? I'm hoping to have either one list of Custom Fields that I can use to create layouts for a spac, folder, list, etc. or a way to at least copy them over from a space to a folder, or visa versa, so I don't have to recreate them. Example, I mistakenly created a bunch of Custom Fields at the List level and have to recreate them all at the Space level to be able to use them for other lists/folders. Maybe this is already possible and I am just not aware how. Either way, way too confusing as is with Custom Fields. But love them regardless!
@Darren Litchfield: We are working on a few different tools to help make it easier to manage ClickUp and a custom field manager is one of those 🙂
@Nick: awesome thanks!
I absolutly share These opinions! Changing a custom field from a space level to a folder level or any other level change is infeasiable time consuming. However, the list of categories in tasks otherwise becomes absurdly long if this is not cleaned up. It is to be expected that there will be a lot of trial and error regarding custom fields at the beginning, and changes within the organizational structure must be possible to adjust. Therefore they really should be transferable. I really hope for all of us you make good progress on this.
(Sorry, I posted from my test-account. This is Marietta.)
My frustration on this issue is seriously getting to the point where I feel like ditching my entire account and starting again just so I can put custom fields in the places they need to live. I seriously had no realisation when I created some workspace and space fields, they would live on every single task and what's more sit at the top of the custom fields of every single task. This must also be creating a ton of unnecessary overhead for you guys. We're using Integromat now to do automations in and out of Clickup and dealing with all the overhead of having 20 custom fields on a task and having to sift through them to find the one we want, actually highlights the wastage this issue would be causing, so it can't be great for your own database efficiencies either. Kind of frustrating to see what I'd consider some more superficial projects get promoted to In Progress ahead of this, which I think is a fundamental issue to heavy users of the platform.
