Custom fields should be expanded by default

In the task detail view, the custom fields section should be expanded by default, so users don't have to click twice to edit the value. If we've gone to the trouble to add custom fields, it's fine to display them proudly in full view!

A specific suggestion for how this should be implemented:
We should have the ability to set whether or not a given custom field is automatically shown or not with a checkbox option next to it.
This way, people who want to hide their many custom fields can, and those who want them shown can also do so.
I think the default should be to show it, with the option to hide, it it feels more intuitive to me that way but I'm biased ; )

Jonathan Leung: Great idea and we are actually planning on doing almost exactly this! You will be able to "pin" fields that you always want to be visible 🙂

Hi ClickUp team, yes, my team has been using the custom fields as a quick form to fill out metrics about the task. Now that they are collapsed it requires extra clicks for every field, reducing the chance anyone will want to fill them out. Can there at least be a single-click-expand?

This "Task View: Custom Field Improvements" improvement which launched 4 days ago has been very problematic for us.
It slows down our work flow significantly, especially when creating new tasks. We now need to click on each custom field, one by one, before we can enter any data in to them.
Also, the fields are no longer sorted by the custom order we have defined. Instead they seem to be sorted alphbetically, which makes using the custom fields very confusing!
How it was before wasn't perfect, but it was a LOT better than how it is now after these suposed "improvements".
@ClickUp - Please please please revert things back to how they were previously while you work on a implementing a proper improvement.
What you have done is causing a lot of headaches.

Andrew Kwitko: Agree. BTW, ClickUp has released an option to revert to custom order. You can find this as a checkbox option on the ClickApps page. https://clickup.canny.io/feature-requests/p/manually-sort-order-of-custom-fields-within-a-task. I enabled it for my team. Hope that helps!

Joanna Sun: Thank you SO MUCH Joanna. :) That has helped lessen some of the pain the latest "improvement" has caused. Though, the whole team are really hoping that Click Up will add back in a way to maximise all the fields with one click.
Thank you again for taking the time to let me know about this new option!!

Andrew Kwitko: Glad it was helpful! And glad the ClickUp team added it back. :) Have a good one.

What they said. It is really time consuming to have to view the custom fields horizontally, selected them, and then enter data. Combine that with the issue of sorts for field order not being maintained (at least for me) workflows are slowing down.

Really looking forward to this being worked on. As of now, I'm doing silly things like creating an automation to set a default value so that it does show up:
Photo Viewer
View photos in a modal

Zeb, even with the new update, this is really annoying that empty fields are collapsed - I get this huge run on sentence when everything is empty:
Photo Viewer
View photos in a modal

oh dear, yes please introduce this option. Every time I open a task in my CRM list, this is the first thing I do to expand the custom fields... I have probably done this hundreds of times by now

Also where you use long text being able to scroll that text or open it up somehow would be really useful. If it fills the default space and more you can't scroll (least I can't) to read it later.
