My Request:
Add the ability to " Convert to Subtask " or " Move to Task " via Automations for existing Tasks or Subtasks
My Why:
My current workflow is to use a Parent Task as the "Blueprint" for a project in its infancy before it becomes a Roadmap or fully scoped out. This helps me visualize everything and keeps it in one location that I can build a Roadmap off of, and also allows me to use one List where all my Blueprints are built. I want to push existing Tasks to the designated Blueprint Parent Task, as a Subtask, so that it is structured properly.
I know we can currently use Automations to cleverly "recreate" or "move" an existing Task to another location and convert it to a Subtask via "Create a Subtask". That it can copy certain Fields over, etc. However, the Files and Attachments always get lost or converted to Links. This is where the problem lies for me.
For my workflow, it's not scalable to have to Push something to a Blueprint and then manually download and re-attach all the Files / Attachments back into it that were previously attached when they were entered into the Portfolio. Sometimes I get random Character inspiration and it might sit in my Portfolio for months until it is picked up and assigned to a Blueprint or active Project. This process I created allows me to brain dump when inspiration strikes, and store the potential Task / Asset accordingly until it could be used in something else.
If you're a fellow visual learner, the attached screenshots will help explain what I'm trying to do. 001 shows what I would like to do in a perfect world. Screenshot 002 shows the current manual process to retain Attachments and Convert to Subtasks. Screenshot 003 shows the final desired outcome that is only accomplished with manual intervention. The Markups on each screenshot should help explain better than I can in a post.
TL:DR:
To summarize: I want to be able to Push and convert existing Tasks from various Lists (in this example, my 'Portfolio' List ) into Subtasks of existing Tasks (in the same, or) other Lists (in this example, 'Blueprints' List) via Automations. This also opens up the ability to provide various conditional flows and could be a really useful tool for Users.
Thank you so much!
