Compare custom fields with REGEX

It would be great if you could compare custom fields based on REGEX instead of just "is equal/not equal" or "is set/not set".

Merged in a post:
Detect Text condition through regex and use the result
Daniel Jaedicke
It would be incredibly useful to be able to use the result of a regex check.
Example, one of several scenarios is to detect whether a task starts with "20,21,22,23,24" (year number) and is followed by another number sequence, which has an internal meaning for a specific department.
If this is the case, I would like to be able to extract this number through an automatization to use it further.
e.g. custom field, comment, etc.
More general usecase is to detect specific words, numbers whatsoever and use the detected string to further process it along with your automatization.
This also applies to Task Description, Custom Fields, Tags etc.
It would make ClickUp way more powerful to detect and process data.
My take this is currently not possible - correct?
If so, please take this as feature request.

Hey Daniel! Regex in automation conditions isn't supported today, and you're right that it's not possible.
There's already a request tracking regex support for conditions — merging your post in. The extraction piece (pulling the matched string out to use in a field or comment, not just testing if it matches) is a meaningful addition to what's already tracked there, so flagging that specifically.

thank you. makes sense to me.
There is currents no plan for that, is it?
Meaning, if I need a solution in the next 3 months, I'd need to go for an external solution using the API. Correct?

Yes, that would be great
