Combine elements of Timeline and Gantt view.

The Gantt and timeline views have a high degree of overlap. It would be good if their functionality could be combined. This would give the flexibility of presentation of the timeline with the dependency link of the Gantt. It would also be useful if the Gantt could represent custom fields (e.g. swap the auto-calculated progress percentage with a manually entered one).

We are thinking about moving away from Clickup because of this. Both views are inadequate and we obviously only have access to Gantt since they moved Timeline to business without warning. We have 50 people on unlimited.

Agree agree agree. The limitation of both views are a MAJOR limitation. I can't quite get the right overview in either view to do simple work planning. My team is somewhat of a matrix structure, and the strict space-folder-list organization of tasks in GANNT makes it sooo hard to digest, but the dependency feature is nonexistent in timeline.

Agreed. They should be combined and have features available on-demand with a click or two. That way it doesn't overwhelm with the mass of options it might end up producing.

I came here because I was organising a holiday, and this just became so unncessarily clicky. All my guests are just like "Why do I need to..." Clickup wasnt an easy sell that day

Also as Alex mentioned adding custom fields will transform this view/tool into a full fledged progress measurement etc. tool
Mohammad Elkhatib
it will help compare the baseline to current forecast dates as workflows and projects proceed

A Timeline is one of the most important tools for Project Managers.
We use it to present our project to the Top management team or our customers to HIGHLIGHT the most important Deliverable or Milestone in a project.
The timeline should only include project phases, deliverables, work packages, activities, and milestones. Tasks should NOT be included. Otherwise, we all will be lost in translation :)
ClickUp's timeline is too BASIC compared to other tools out there in the market such as MS Project (The father of all project management tools)
PLEASE GIVE US OPTIONS TO
1 Add or remove tasks or milestones we wanted t show in the timeline. Currently, all kinds of tasks arise automatically added to the timeline in ClickUp which is a big mess.

2 Add colors to a different task to distinguish them from each other
See the video here: https://youtu.be/AeVxPeXv99E?t=116
3 Display milestone as "Call-out" and drag the label around to fit the layout instead of Bar only
See the video here: https://youtu.be/AeVxPeXv99E?t=181
4 Export timeline to different formats
See the video here: https://youtu.be/AeVxPeXv99E?t=234
5 Add multiple Timeline bars in one Timeline view, and move tasks or milestones between Timelines

6 Trim Timeline bars so it looks much cleaner

this would make perfect sense.

Yes, in fact I think Asana has this nailed. I love the way their timeline view clearly shows everything. Example attached.

Everett O'Keefe: Completely agree, their dependency setup, the ease of moving everything, the fact that where you put a task down is actually where it stays...
In CU, the fact that you can group by one set of data on Gantt view, and a different set on timeline drives me mad. That you can't view teams on Gantt view is another maddening aspect... they work just fine on timeline view...
