Collapsible Table of Contents (TOC)

I LOVE the TOC at the top of my documents, but it would be cool if I could collapse the H1's so that it takes up less space. Then, if I want to expand a selection, there could be an arrow or something to show the H2s and H3s.

It would be very handy for long documents to have the possibility to setup the TOC (and sticky TOC) to show only H1 and H2 levels

Remove headings in table of contents

I'd love to see the ability to remove certain headings from appearing in the table of contents. For example, we just want to see headings that are Heading 1 in the table of contents, because other headings are simply used to break up the notes and make them more scannable. Sometimes, Heading 1 is the most relevant thing that people will want to skip to. If there was a way to manually remove certain headings from the table of contents, that would be fantastic!

Yes, this is a great idea, for reference see Confluence TOC (can select H1, H1-2, H1-3, etc.)

I almost created a new topic until I saw this post. Definitely a good idea Michael. I would go one step further and say a collapsible object that can be used anywhere throughout a doc. I'm thinking the / command could just be "/collapse". Then an icon that can be expanded/collapsed would show.
It helps with organization and it's less daunting for someone seeing a doc for the first time. I've been writing a lot of internal documentation and knowledge base type stuff lately and collapsible header tags would be great.
For example, the steps in a SOP might have H1 tags while the details might be under H3 tags. It's great to be able to quickly see the steps without getting bogged down by the details. The details could also be under the collapsible object so while the tags are showing the details can be out of view until needed.

Yes, sometimes it's great to use the titles for formatting purposes, making the document easier to read.
However, in some cases having all of these "formatting" headers appear in the table of contents can make it really long. Being able to remove specific headers from appearing in the table of contents would allow for a more easily navigable document, while not sacrificing readability.
