Definitely option b. If you enter the wrong time you can still edit and delete it so I don’t know why the buttons would be necessary
Nick Jones
Option A, I imagine B potentially causing unnecessary notifications sent to assignees.
Patty Tulloch
Agree with Michael you kind of need both ... B is fast but you need A as a fallback

Michael Buck
Option B helps keeps inputs quick but having the buttons from Option A as a fall back would be helpful!

Option A

Hey everyone!
We’re currently working on this feature with Vasil Enchev.
Quick UX question (slightly off topic):
We’re exploring improvements to the current
auto-saving
experience. When saving a time estimate, which interaction do you prefer?Option A: Explicit Cancel / Save buttons

Option B: Press Enter to save

Your input will help us fine-tune the experience. Thanks!

Alexander Zinchenko ¿Por qué no los dos?

Alexander Zinchenko Option B for sure! Do you think it should potentially be one or the other pending your level or certification within ClickUp, i.e. admins could have B vs other access levels are A? Just a thought.

Entonces, al pulsar Enter se guarda el valor, mientras que al hacer clic en Guardar se guarda el valor y se cierra el desplegable. ¿Es esto lo que esperarías?

So pressing Enter saves the value, while clicking Save both saves the value and closes the dropdown. Is that what you’d expect?
Elise Remissong
Alexander Zinchenko A until it autosaves, then get rid of the 'save' button entirely. With B, I'd expect it to autosave since there's no button
Emily Baumfalk
Alexander Zinchenko Option B for sure OR allow tabbing to the save button
Molly Whelan
Alexander Zinchenko Keyboard first - less clicks, always!
Elizabeth Manadili
Alexander Zinchenko Cancel / Save buttons to avoid time estimate loss (currently loosing it when pressing ESC - very frustrating)

Absolutely, I think from the UX perspective, making it clear it's easier to "train" people on how to use it.
At the same time, I'm not a fan of "clickeable" things because 90% of the time I missclick, the modal closes without warning and I lose the changes.
So, having option B as a backup/alternative/power user feature would be very welcome.
Also, throw in there that pressing TAB changes between the different team members (total time estimate entered - TAB - focus on "darrell" enter time TAB focus on "floyd" enter time
At any point, if I press enter on floyd or darrell it would simply accept the times and save.

Alexander Zinchenko B - are you working on bulk editing for recurring settings?

Shreyansh Jain
Hi Alexander Zinchenko,
I would like both. Explicit keyboard YES with enter or an Explicit click on save or clicking outside to save.
But the Cancel button in option A is required to undo any anychange before committing and creating an edit record for admin to check during audit.
Thus mixture of both

Alexander Zinchenko Both A and B.

Please! I would kill to have this basic feature

If I can set an estimate for one task, how come it's not possible to set an estimate for multiple tasks?
- do action on A,
- do action on B,
- iterate until over?

Also would be great to bulk clear time estimate too! I tried using an automation but it won't let me set time estimate to 0min

I tried using AI to do this. AI either quits in the middle of the task or gets it wrong completely. We need a bulk update tool now.
Alex Omeyer (ClickUp)
Steven Freshour: sorry to hear it failed! How many tasks were you trying to update? I can talk to Eng. to see what we can do.
S
Steven Freshour
Alex Omeyer (ClickUp) I guess it was hundreds of tasks.
Alex Omeyer (ClickUp)
Steven Freshour: Got it, thanks! Have you tried asking it to update tasks in batches of 20? I've seen it do the trick (sometimes the assistant does it without being prompted to but better ask to be sure).
S
Steven Freshour
Alex Omeyer (ClickUp) I did that for a list that had 12 tasks. AI said ok I will update all 5 tasks in this list. I then said there are 12 tasks and it said ok sorry. I eventually got it to update 12 tasks, but the point is this doesn't work well and now I hit a limit and I'm being asked to pay for AI upgrade per user. You need to work out the bugs before you start charging for AI. But it seems like having the ability to bulk update time estimates would be easier to develop than AI and should be a standard feature.
Alex Omeyer (ClickUp)
Steven Freshour: Noted, thanks for sharing more detail and sorry you experienced issues. If you ever bump into issues like these, please don't hesitate to downvote the AI response. The trace gets sent straight back to us and really helps us debug.
Totally agree on bulk updating time estimates without AI cc Ivan Villa

Steven Freshour Same thing for me. The batches really fails and is more manual effort for me to manage the AI than to do it myself.
