Add Placeholders / Fields to TO / CC / BCC Field in E-Mail Automations
Julian Pustkuchen
Since "See Sender Addresses for Tasks & Comments Created via Email" has been finished yesterday (HOOORAAAY!!! :D), the only thing stopping us from creating a very flexible Ticket System with Clickup is the missing option to use Placeholders on ClickUp E-Mail Automations recipients. Currently only static text is possible (but sadly not helpful for that).
Please try to create an automatic reply to received E-Mails with Automations like "Thank you for your Ticket, we're working on it". I think it's not possible due to this missing variables! :(
It would work as the placeholders available for the Text would be available as TO / CC / BCC recipients. Currently, only hard coded text is possible.
To improve this in General, I think for E-Mail TO / CC / BCC Automation fields you'd need to be able to select multiple of the following (as multi recipients):
- Creator E-Mail (as may be from an outside Mail Address)
- Watchers
- Assignees
- Custom E-Mail Field
- ...?
Same should also be available in the texts. And please ensure it works for incoming emails from outside.
Would be cool to have this simple but important improvement soon to be able to finish the ClickUp Ticket System :)
Thanks a lot!

"Creator Email" cannot be used in "To" field for Automation Action "Send Email"

When creating a new List Automation w/ the Email ClickApp as an Action, I cannot use any Fields that appear in the Subject or Body inputs as parameters in the To, Cc, or Bcc inputs.
I have my support email address configured to forward all new mail to a ClickUp List's "Email To List" generated address. My goal is to have ClickUp send an automated acknowledgement message from my support address back to the user once their task has been added to the list via their email; this is so that users are assured their ticket is being investigated.
Including the "Creator Email" parameter in the "To" field's available choices (there are currently none) would make this possible.
Another approach that I also tried: Custom Fields seem to be usable in the "To" field. I've tried to configure another Automation to set the Custom Field
first
to the "Creator Email" parameter, then - once that is accomplished - send the email as described above. However, it appears that Custom Field automations also cannot use any parameters to set their values, so this approach also does not work. This seems like a relatively simple feature in my eyes, especially given that Subject and Body can use custom parameters such as "Creator Email"; so I was surprised when this was not possible. I'd appreciate if this were possible in a near-future update.

You nailed it Brandon! Being able to drop Creator Email into the To: field is a huge unlock for those support-style "email to list" setups where you want to auto-acknowledge the sender. There's already a high-vote post on exactly this (and your detail on the Custom Field workaround is great context to add) so I'm merging yours in to combine the votes

Include assignee email as an option in email automations

It seems that the only email options for to: cc: and bcc: when creating automations are those from custom fields. Please add "assignee email" as an option.

E-mail automation

When I set up an Email automation due to status changes it has to be more Felixable .
1- TO: CC: BCC: all of these has to be taken or extracted from the task itself ( from the task custom fileds ) so it will regularly send an specific things to his email that I added in the task already
2- We want to attach document to the Email automations . for example here's your invoice and writing @ so the document appear in the email content easily instead of tagging task and make it public sharing
Without these 2 features I'm really sorry to tell that tool is useless.
Best regards,
Paul Hepp
yes, please add the ability to add a custom email field, and cc that person on a form request

Ability to use email address from 'People' custom fields
Austin Pearce
In trying to create an email automation to notify the 'People' custom field called 'Reviewer' on tasks when the task changes its status to "Needs Code Review", it would be great if you could pull the email address from the Clickup user assigned to the 'People' custom field. Currently, it seems you can only pull an email from a task if there is a 'Email' custom field. Another idea would to be able to pull an email from a 'Dropdown' custom field so you could have predefined email addresses. Thanks!

Send automated emails to Creator

When we're creating automated emails, it'd be great to be able to add the Creator Email in the 'To' field without having to set it up as a custom field. ClickUp has the information available for the Subject field so hopefully it's an easy fix to add it to the recipients as well.

Yes! Sending to the creator email is exactly what we're tracking under dynamic TO/CC/BCC fields. Merging to consolidate votes — thanks for posting this!

On email automation, please add the feature of adding dynamic fields for 'To" (Recipients) therefore we can add the relevant task assignees or people's email id as default for any triggers.
