Automations - Allow custom field triggers to include changes from "Not Set" --> "Set" and "Any" --> "Blank"
complete
Guy Mannerings
Currently, there is no way to set an Automation based on a Custom Field changing from "Any" (or another field) to being blank.
This is really needed to get full use out of Custom Field-based Automations.

This is great for most custom field types but doesn't work for custom date fields. There is no way to select "Any" or "Blank" for those...

This! There should be an option for any kind of change in a date custom fields as well! That would be very useful for me

Alright, I think we've captured most of all the requests here and shipped the improvements so that you can do things like "any" to "blank"!
We hope this helps you be even more productive with automations.
Thank you!

Thanks Zach - ClickUp! I was looking forward to this.

Zach - ClickUp huge win!

Zach - ClickUp is it possible to have a call with you to review one Automation related to this? This is a similar case but different condition:
Anyways, I'm adding the screenshot here. That automation is not working right now.
Thanks in advance for all the support.

Zach - ClickUp: one roadblock we often hit is triggering automations off a Label (multi select) field. We’d love to be able to say “when x label is added or removed then do y”. But currently that label field has to be empty / match exactly for it to trigger. For us it renders label fields unusable for automations.

Siobhan Wheelan: Agreed. We're doing a workaround with "tag added", but, our tags will quickly get unwieldy/repetitive of our custom fields.

Siobhan Wheelan: agreed. I've also repeatedly run into an issue when I want to have an automation triggered when a custom date field or a dropdown is first set. i.e. it's empty when the task is created and then it's updated to any date/value that triggers Y.

I believe I have this set up already but tell me if It's not what your looking for (and it probably needs simplification regardless) I actually made a list for our "clickup feedback" as we are testing it and a custom field called "Answers" where we put definitive answers to the feedback. One automation changes the status to "Answered" when there is any text added to the answer field. The other changes the status BACK to unanswered if the field becomes blank (unset). It's worked great so far!

Zach - ClickUp any ETA for this request?

Mariana Irazu: Not at the moment. We're currently working on Dynamic People support

Adding my request here -- we'd like to have a trigger for automation that allows us to:
"When Custom Field is
set
", Then (...)" This is what I am gathering is in the original request

Automation Set Custom Field Value cannot set to empty

I am trying to set an automation to empty one of my Custom fields whenever the status of a task is changed. However, I cannot save the automation until I select an actual value for the field, thus I cannot empty it.
I assume this is not intended behavior.

When setting an Automation that changes "set custom field", you should be able to select empty
Currently, if you set an Automation that changes a custom field value, you cannot set it to be no value.
What this means is you can't use automations to REMOVE values.
In this case, I want to have an Automation so that when the status changes to Done or Closed, a custom field label is removed so that it is blank (as this will mean it won't show up in lists I have that filter by that value).
This is not possible at the moment.

Allow automations for any custom field change w/o having to select the custom field

Allow an automation rule for any custom field change w/o having to select the custom field. That way I can create notifications when changes are made to criteria w/o having to select each individual criteria field.
