Automation applies template remapping due date
R
Renato Chu
We use a form to create new tasks and when it is created an automation applies a specific template depending on answers from the form.
But, the automation does not remap the start or due date of the template. It just apply a template and changes the original task to the template's dates.

This feels less like a feature we should need to request and more like a bug that should be fixed.

Hey ClickUp Team,
Any update on this? We really need this feature as soon as possible.
Jack Stringer
Bumping this - this makes it impossible to create tasks from the calendar view because you'll click to create the task, then it will apply the template and remove the due date, thus disappearing from the calendar - would really appreciate a fix here!
This also applies to forms - we're unable to use forms to create templated tasks because it erases the due date value that was entered in the form - since we need to use templates, this essentially makes forms unusable

Need updates on this feature!

I can't believe there is no solution to this yet. This is EXTREMELY important. Any updates here?

I just wanted to add my voice to this feature request too. Not having subtask due dates remap when a template is applied means that applying a template via an automation just isn't a useable feature right now.
I made a Loom for support with my use case (because I initially thought this might be a bug) and will share that here too

One other comment - when I create a templated task from an automation in this way, if I change the due date and get the option to remap the subtasks it doesn't work for me - which is why I'm using the step of reapplying the template.

I understand the ask is about "templates" but I think I was able to replicate the issue here without a template. Let me know if I'm missing anything or if this is the problem.
Thank you all

Zach - ClickUp: hey Zach, even if the workaround is ugly as long as all subtask dates are updated based on the main tasks due date that would be fine. My challenge is that the due date is set in the form, my task template has dates at different periods (based upon when I created it to have a timeline!) these dates are showing as April even if the new due date is set to July in the form!

Zach - ClickUp: yes, i think its the same point. when the automation remap the due date of a task template it not propagete to subtasks. so its look like automation has a defaut answer "no thanks" to de question "should we change subtasks dates also?"

Zach - ClickUp: I think this would be great for what I am wanting to do - thank you!

Zach - ClickUp: I have the same issue as the OP (due dates is added in a form, but the task template that gets applied overrides the entered due dates). The proposed solution from the video looks like it would work and would be super helpful for both triggered, due-date based automations and task templates that are applied via automation.
Lauren Seim
Zach - ClickUp: That is correct!

Zach - ClickUp: Hey Zack, that is the just of it. This really is the puzzle piece missing to make forms work with automations to apply templates with predetermined start and end dates to remap everything and ideally skip weekends [and holidays or preset blackout dates].

Zach - ClickUp: Hi Zach - what you offered here is exactly what is needed! Is this a fix that could be deployed soon?

Zach - ClickUp Your proposed solution would work well and fix many issues: When creating tasks from from forms and then applying a template, when creating tasks from automations with a template, when creating tasks from external applications (eg. hubspot) - all these flows, and potentially others- are currently broken because all subtasks' due dates don't get updated. With your solution, adding an step to the automation to update due date will fix them all!

Zach - ClickUp My issue is that I have an automation that applies a task template when the task is created, and the template overrides the due date I set for the new task and replaces it with the template's date. There's no remapping happening at all. Can we add a solution that gives the option to either "Remap Dates based on task Due Date" or "Change Due Dates to Match Template"
Till Scheffczyk
This is crucial for the automations to actually be of value.
We also need to be able to skip weekends and holiday [also custom holidays we want to be able to set or black out dates for internal purposes]
