Would love to see this implemented. When applying a template to a List, a new list is created. In the case of Lists, this isn't useful. 
In our setup, Lists are created via the API (integrated with another app) and I need to apply a template to the existing List.
The default function should apply the template to the List you're on. It's less work, as a user, to click on an existing list (or quickly create a new one), browse to a template and apply. Current functionality feels kind of backwards.
