I'd like to request the option to display
Task Comments and Task Activity together in a single, chronological timeline
within an individual task, rather than having to switch between separate Comments and Activity views.
The problem
Currently, users must switch between Comments and Activity to understand what has happened within a task. This makes it difficult to see the relationship between a comment and a particular task change.
For example, a team member might change a task's status, update a Custom Field, or adjust a due date, and then add a comment explaining why. When these events are separated into different views, it's difficult to see the full sequence of events and understand the context behind decisions.
This is particularly frustrating when reviewing a task's history, investigating why something changed, or trying to understand the timing of a decision relative to team discussions.
Why a combined view matters
A task's activity and comments are closely related. Comments often explain the reasoning behind changes, while activity records provide important context for conversations.
Having both in one chronological timeline would:
  • Provide a complete, chronological history of what happened and when.
  • Make it easier to understand the relationship between comments and task changes.
  • Improve accountability and transparency by showing the sequence of actions and discussions.
  • Reduce unnecessary switching between views.
  • Make reviewing historical tasks, decisions, and changes significantly easier.
Suggested solution: Give users a choice
I appreciate that some users may prefer Comments and Activity to remain separate, particularly where a task has a lot of activity that could clutter the conversation.
Rather than replacing the current design, I would strongly encourage ClickUp to offer users a choice between:
  1. Combined view:
Comments and all Task Activity displayed together in a single, timestamped chronological timeline.
  2. Separate view:
Retain the current interface, where Comments and Activity are accessed separately.
Ideally, this could be a simple toggle or preference within the task view, with ClickUp remembering the user's selection.
Why I'm requesting this
For me, the value of a task's history is not simply knowing what changed or what somebody said, but understanding
what happened, when it happened, and how those events relate to one another
.
Separating comments from activity removes valuable context and makes what should be a straightforward review of a task's history unnecessarily difficult.
I'm not asking for the separate views to be removed. I'm simply asking that users who rely on a complete chronological record be given the option to see everything together.
Please consider bringing back this functionality as an optional view.
It would be a meaningful usability improvement for users who depend on ClickUp for collaboration, traceability, accountability, and historical task review, without negatively affecting those who prefer the current separate views.
