Allow Labor Rates to Be Assigned Natively by Role and/or Task
Elizabeth Filin-Matthews
It would be extremely valuable for ClickUp to support native labor rate assignments at both the Role and Task levels.
Many organizations use ClickUp to manage projects, resources, capacity planning, and time tracking. However, teams that need to understand project costs, profitability, budget burn, and resource utilization often must rely on external tools because labor rates cannot currently be assigned directly within ClickUp.
Adding the ability to assign rates by role and/or task would significantly enhance ClickUp's capabilities as a comprehensive project and operations management platform.
Example Use Cases:
Role-Based Rates
* Project Manager = $125/hour
* Senior Designer = $110/hour
* Developer = $150/hour
* Copywriter = $95/hour
Task-Specific Rates
* Strategic Consulting = $175/hour
* Development Work = $150/hour
* Design Work = $110/hour
* QA Review = $90/hour
Benefits:
* Enables accurate project cost tracking directly within ClickUp
* Improves budget forecasting and burn-rate reporting
* Supports resource planning and profitability analysis
* Reduces dependence on external time-tracking and financial systems (Such as Harvest)
* Allows teams to compare planned versus actual project costs
* Creates greater visibility into project performance and financial health
Ideal Functionality:
* Assign default rates at the Role level
* Allow task-level rates to override role-level rates when needed
* Calculate labor costs automatically based on tracked time
* Surface cost data within Dashboards, Reporting, and Workload views
* Support internal cost rates and billable client rates separately
* Allow Workspace Administrators to control visibility of rate information
As more agencies, consulting firms, professional services organizations, and internal operations teams adopt ClickUp as their central operating platform, native rate management would unlock significantly more powerful budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting capabilities without requiring third-party tools.
