Allow Formula Fields to Pull Variables from Other Tasks & Lists
Dave Leek
Right now it seems that Formula Fields can only pull in variables from the task they're on. It would be liberating if there was the ability to use Variables from other Tasks and Lists.

This seems like an easy fix as it is almost a deal breaker...

This will be helpful for creating custom fields that specifically rely on information under tasks from separate lists without having to add one task to multiple lists.
Example: My game character levels up when the average rank of their gear increases. I would like to automatically calculate my character's level.

Is this on the roadmap? I was so interested in this and this is the one dealbreaker

This would be super useful for tallying up expenditure e.g for marketing activities related to a wider campaign.

I'd love to be able to use variables from related entities, in particular the lists to which a task belongs and other tasks to which it's linked in some way. A couple of examples:
- Fetch the start or end date of the sprint a task belongs to and use this to calculate another date.
- Roll up the time/effort estimates of unstarted blocking tasks.

Also subtasks! For example, if I have a submission form where I want multiple team members to rank the submission using subtasks on a 1-5 dropdown field, then I want to create a formula field that gives the average ranking across the team, pulling from those values.

February 2024 - where are we with this? This should definitely be a feature. I am unable to even say "here is a list showing initiatives and this initiative has 43 backlog items of which this percentage is completed." By linking the product backlog list and doing a simple calculation of 'amount completed, amount remaining as percentage'

This is really necessarie. To do a CRM, I can create an list with services and prices, and another list with business in progress, on this list "business in progress" i can create a custom field relationed with "services" to select all the services, and I need a custom field formula to calculate the sum off all selected services. Today this last part isn't possible. Please Click Up, enable this option!

Fabrício Borges: exactly!

ClickUp is so close to being a functional RDBMS, but it needs much more robust formulas to really be "one app to replace them all."

Yes! Exactly. Like average number of tasks, or if subtasks have been in status for greater than a week, do this, or really just being able to access any data point from anywhere in the workspace. Perhaps this is most relevant to dashboards, or other places where a formula might not be associated with a specific task. Currently a lot of this type of thing has to be done externally in a spreadsheet, and pulled into ClickUp custom fields etc. with Make.
