Allow Due Dates to be calculated
Marissa Aymar
I would love to be able to calculate start dates and due dates based on another date field. We have a compliance task that needs to be done every two years based on the day that it was last completed. I'd like to be able to input "date last completed" and have the next due date and start date calculate accordingly.
I can see other use cases for this as well as we have client due dates (a hard date that something needs to be delivered to a client) and an internal due date (the date that our team is shooting for in order to complete the task in enough time). I want the client due date to drive the the tasks due date and start date.
I am certain there are likely other applications of this, but these are the two that come to mind immediately.

I need this every time we have a product launch (which we are in the product launch every single work day). Our Due Date needs to be able to be a formula: DATE(YEAR(DAYS(field("Due date"), field("Days"))), MONTH(DAYS(field("Due date"), field("Days"))), DAY(DAYS(field("Due date"), field("Days"))))
Instead of creating this in a Custom Field Date, we need to use the custom field date as the launch date and base the above formula off of that for the Due Date that shows on all the views.

Allow all dates to be calculated

cielo: I agree with you. It should be possible to calculate all dates. It would make my job much easier.

Agree with this - plus it would be great if it could figure out weekends and weekdays for due dates to ensure it isn't just a straight 10 days or something and end up on a public holiday or something silly for a due date

Ditto!!! I have automations that are super clumsy without this feature - PLEASE allow due dates to be calculated!!

It would be incredibly helpful if due dates could be calculated. We need to it to calculate the due date based on the start date + time estimate so that we can easily see how long a project will take. We also need to recalculate everything if a start date slips.

I would like this so that a task has a standard duration so that we don’t have to count weeks to get to the due date, and conversely we can see how many weeks and how many weekdays we are giving for a task in our Gantt chart. We are a project based team and rely on Gantt charts for internal and external communication and accountability — the custom date field is not helpful because it acts like a note and does not impact how the task shows up in Gantt.

Thanks for the feedback, Marissa Aymar! I know it doesn't get you 100% of the way there since we treat the Due Date field differently to a custom date field, but have you explored using a Formula to calculate these dates based on your "Date last completed" field?
Marissa Aymar
Caroline Ginty: Hmm, that could work to plug the gap in the interim. Is there a way to force the due date or start date to be equal to the calculated custom fields?
Kim Meyering
Marissa Aymar: wondering the same!

Caroline Ginty: It should at least be possible to copy the calculated field into the due and start date. Additionally, it should be possible to copy a calculated field from one task to the start or due date of another task.

Caroline Ginty: You can calculate a due date, but then you can't sort, group or filter by that custom formula field...
