Advanced Dependency Options
planned
Jeremy Benson
Many times when scheduling I need two tasks to finish at the same time and want to know the required start dates. I would suggest that additional dependency options other than "blocks" or "is blocking" like Start/Start Start/Finish Finish/Finish and +/- days modifiers are needed.

👋 Hello everyone
We are currently building these advanced dependency options and we'd like to get your take on how these should be represented in our UI.
Please provide your thoughts using this survey.
As always, your input will shape this feature.
Thanks you!

It seems that these days this is crucial basic project management functionality.
We just moved off another platform that had this feature and we were surprised to learn that ClickUp didn't have it. Please get this created as soon as possible.
Thank you for all your work!

I support this request.

Bugra Oktay - survey done
The one additional request I put in is to be able to have duration adjusters in the relationships.
For example SF+2, mean the second task start two days after the first task finishes.

Bugra Oktay will this be only for the higher tiers like was done for duration? I see these both as basic functionality of project management tools, not premium features.

Bugra Oktay I forgot to mention that we also want to be able to apply delay to the dependencies. When will the dependencies be launched? Pretty urgent here!
Andy Miller
Any chance this is going to relate to this - https://feedback.clickup.com/feature-requests/p/reschedule-dependencies-when-moving-the-task-to-an-earlier-date
B
Bugra Oktay
Andy Miller - Hi Andy, moving a blocking task forward and backward should already be moving the dependent tasks the same amount when reschedule dependencies setting is on. Please give this a try and let me know if it doesn't work for you.
Andy Miller
Bugra Oktay Hey. This definitely did not work, unless in Gantt view, i guess. i was hoping for something outside of gantt view workaround

Merged in a post:
Traditional Predecessor, Relationship or Dependency
Vanessa Machado
It would be helpful if the dependency feature was more representative of traditional PM relationships such as:
Finish-to-Start
Finish-to-Finish
Start-to-Start
Start-to-Finish
It would also be helpful if this was simply a number referring to a task on the list with a field available to be shown in list views. The only other way to do this now is through the Gantt view and it is not the best/easiest way. Dependencies, predecessors or relationships should be more geared towards project managers and reduce the number of clicks required to prepare timelines.
Also including Lag times!!

Hello everyone - I'm happy to inform you that we are currently working on this feature. Stay tuned for a release date.

Bugra Oktay Thank you. Looking forward to these features: Finish to Start (FtS), Finish to Finish (FtF), Start to Finish (StF), Start to Start (StS). This allows for advanced project management planning. It would be great to be able to add lags between the dependencies as well--both positive and negative. Thanks again. It would be great to be able to add lags between the dependencies as well.

Bugra Oktay This will be extremely helpful.
Thanks

Bugra Oktay Great, I am very excited to know that this is moving forward.

Bugra Oktay Great, please also give us a dedicated dependency columns for Predecessors and Successors

Bugra Oktay Our team desperately needs these dependencies for our tasks. The office will continue to use MS Project until this feature appears in Clickup, which is unfortunate. Are there any approximate dates for when this feature will be available?
M
Massimiliano Dorella
Bugra Oktay Great, I hope this update solves my problem. If I move a blocking activity to another, the blocked activity should move only if the slack between the 2 is zero.
B
Bugra Oktay
Hi Roman Langovoy - We are hoping to ship this feature in early September.
B
Bugra Oktay
Massimiliano Dorella - as part of this feature, we are also looking at how dependency rescheduling is enforced in existence of slack between tasks. Your problem should be solved once we ship this feature.
Chris Ripley-Duggan
Bugra Oktay any ETA? As others have mentioned, we DESPERATELY need this. Very hard to get members of our team away from MS Project when this isn't supported.
Miranda Cabral
I need this too!!1

The dependency function is far too cumbersome for clickup to move beyond task collaboration (for which is it fantastic) and become a true project management tool like MS Project, Smartsheet, and Hive.
Dependency field can only be made visible in list view, not table(!) or even Gantt(!!!)
Editing dependencies is very click-heavy and time consuming
Only finish-to-start dependencies are possible, and no lags can be included
There is no duration field
I'm glad to see traction on the parent/child task date relationship, but these other items must be fixed. These are super basic functionalities that all PM tools must have.
B
Bugra Oktay
Michael Kuczewski: I hear you. We are working on closing those gaps. For instance, duration field is out now.
M
Michael Kuczewski
Bugra Oktayyes, but only as a top-tier feature. This is basic functionality that should exist at all tiers.

Ooh yes! This would be very helpful for our team. Any update on when this is planned to be worked on?
B

Tanner Byas: it is in the works. Will soon share the availability date.
