Reminders for Tasks

One of the key advantages of clickup was to "containerize" communication in tasks. So insteado fo having 1000s of group chats, that mix different projects, you have everything around one task centered on the task page.
I often used assigned comments, to remind people of things they should do on a task. Now with reminders/inbox, I have a much better tool for that.
However, with the introduction of reminders, this logic of putting everything in a task that is related to this task is broken!
In my opinion, it would be important to have the option to associate reminders in a similar style as checklist items or assigned comments with tasks. I think as manager you often go through tasks and want to remind people of something. Reminders are better than assigned comments, because they have a due date. But they should show the associated task (if there is one).
A slash command /r in the task chat to create a reminder would be great (that then is automatically associated with the task). Alternatively, an option to convert assigned comments to reminders.

We're excited to share we've begun working on this feature!
Soon, you'll be able to set a reminder from any task across your Workspace. The reminder will link to the task and eventually we're also build out notifications for your reminders (that go to Inbox) so you'll stay on top of them too!

Brendan W, Thank you Brendan, I think will be very helpful. Will the reminder allow you to set a time for the reminder? (I think that's important too).
Brendan W
Lalo Mantilla Yes, just like reminders today (standalone or linked to a comment)
Lalo Mantilla
Brendan W perfect! Thank you.

Brendan W Thank you for the update, that's some exciting news.
Appreciate if the reminders can have an optional email and browser notifications., same as when a task is assigned for example.

Lalo Mantilla check my comment from October 7, 2022. I think (Apple) calendar is the perfect solution here

It would be useful to be able to set the reminder even two or three months before the due date. Furthermore, being able to set multiple reminders at different times for the same task and make it more customizable.

Brendan W I find the above very important for me.
I would very much benefit from being able to set multiple reminders at different times for the same task and make it more customizable.
Also it should be an option to automate reminders e.g. when due date is set, send reminders as comments 15 / 30 / 45 days before etc.
I think a lot of people will benefit from these
Thanks

Hey, everyone! We're looking to get your insight and feedback about Reminders in ClickUp :)
Please take a few minutes to fill out this survey:
Michael
Brendan W I filled out the survey, but for discussion, my replies here:
1 - Here's the real problem: Task start dates don't mean anything. It doesn't help anyone to get a task notification after it's already past due. We need to be able to attach reminders to start dates
and
due dates - with flexible time buffers. I mean Apple figured this out a quarter century ago in iCal. It's pretty simple. And really, we need to be able to attach reminders to anything
like that. Custom Fields, Comments, Checklists, Automations....2 - I'd get the most use out of; Checklists, Tasks & Comments
3 - Probably Inbox or a dedicated reminders page/tab/home
4 - not sure. home, inbox... either probably fine
5 - not at this time
6 - not much at this time. in the future will become more important
7 - not at this time
8 - maybe once a quarter... because I can't attach them to anything.
9 - I clicked up out of the survey & forgot what the question was, so..

Brendan W I filled out the survey but it was asking about my current use of reminders, but I don't use them now because I don't really get what they are for. I use ClickUp for my personal tasks, not with a team. I want to be able to set reminders or notifications for tasks at the task level, like every other task management software. Reminders seem to be mini-tasks and something else to keep track of. Why do I need to create a whole new mini-task just to remind me about a task I have already created? And you cannot even connect them to a task if I understand correctly. Maybe I'm missing something, but Notifications doesn't really solve the problem either because it's applied for EVERY task. You have to choose whether you want to be notified for EVERY past due task or a set time before EVERY start date. Why can't you just choose which tasks are important enough to get reminded of, and click a bell or something within the task itself, and set when you'd like to be reminded/notified? (eg if it's due in 2 months, you can choose to be reminded the week before or the day before or the hour before or some combination.) Another task might need a different reminder schedule. Another task might not need any reminder. This seems like basic stuff here, but maybe I'm missing something.

Hey Michael!
When you say "It doesn't help anyone to get a task notification after it's already past due. We need to be able to attach reminders to start dates and due dates", have you taken a look at notifications settings for start and due dates?
You're able to already get reminders before a start date approaches, before a due date approaches, and after a task becomes overdue. These can also be configured with a wide range of mins/hours/days to meet your needs.
These aren't of course Reminders like the ClickUp feature but do show up in Inbox, email, etc.
Brendan W
Callista Rakhmatov: Thanks for the insight into your use case. We're definitely investigating adding reminders against tasks and is new functionality we want to unlock :)
Notifications for Reminders would be in addition etc.
Michael
Brendan W oh OK it's been a while since I've looked at those settings, so I'll do a refresher soon. Thanks for letting me know.
Brendan W
Michael: Of course! Based on your description it sounds like that is what you want!

Brendan Wit should be like snoozing an email or an alarm. You pick a set interval or a set date and time.
Michael
Brendan W well, among other things, yeah 🥶

Hey, guys!
Just wanted to provide a short update that we'll be picking up some work here soon, making Reminders a first class feature in ClickUp!
Stay tuned!

Brendan W go go go! thx

Brendan W this is the best update news I've ever heard from ClickUp.
Please draw inspiration from Google Calendar's event reminders and keep it simple: reminders should be a property within a task (not a separate object); choose one or more reminder times per task.
Even better: ability to link the reminder to the task's start or due date (so that reminders change when the start or due date changes) - e.g. Remind Me 1 day (at 9am) before Start Date

Brendan W For those of us who like to use Inbox for our own tasks and reminders, it would be nice if we assigned a job to ourselves, it would show up there.
Guy Mannerings
Would like pop-up reminders as an option, rather than them being hidden behind Inbox.
Reminders are important, should get pop-up message prominence.

I have just started to use Clickup and I don't understand why it is not possible to set a reminder for a task. Using comments as reminders is definitely not ideal. It should be possible to automate the creation of reminders when a certain type of task is created.

yes! I am sick of trying to use Due Date to get reminders or create a separate reminder outside of a task is so tedious. Can't wait for this feature.
Tim Ray
I'll admit I'm baffled this isn't done. Huge disappointment as a new CU user that I can't do this. This needs to move to the top of the priority list as this is a basic, yet important feature to make staying on top of many tasks easier.
