Ring users when a SyncUp is started
completed

I don't know if someone started a SyncUp with me or in a Chat I am part of, because I don't receive a notification or pop-up with sound.

Hey, guys!
We know it's been a long time coming, but we're excited to announce we've begun our
Beta launch for SyncUp ringing
! 📣Refresh your app if you haven't, have someone call you, and hear our beautiful ringtone!
- Now, you should receive a modal popup and sound when someone starts a SyncUp in a DM or Group DM you are part of.
- Use SyncUps in Channels? Now, you can manually invite users who have access to the Channel to join your SyncUp!
- Ringing works across browser and desktop, with mobile support in the works! 📱
- Lastly, users with push notifications disabled might not hear the sound right now, but we're working on that too!
If you have any feedback or run into any issues during your testing, please use this form!
Ricardo Abude
in our experience it is working randomly, like in 10% of the calls only
Brendan W
Hey, everyone! 👋
We've been pushing a lot of improvements for SyncUp ringing lately - let us know how your experience has been recently!
Huy Pham
Brendan W - not working. I have the latest version of the desktop app. Which verision should it be? Are there buttons I'm suppose to turn on?
Lucas Schmitt
Brendan W It usually works for us but sometimes you can only see that someone is calling but there is no sound
Rodel Villanueva
Brendan W it works on desktop (web) which is a big achievement. Thank you!
On mobile it doesn't ring though. I haven't tested on desktop app yet.
Rodel Villanueva
Lucas Schmitt the ringtone is working on my end. It will only play for 30-60 seconds I think.
Julio Amorim
Brendan W Ringing does not work at all for me. I have adjusted settings, notifications, etc. Still nothing.
Sarah Fernandez
Brendan W - We are loving it and LOVING the ringtone. Definitely a big improvement. Thanks for working on this!
Lauren Don
Brendan W there has been no change here. It doensn't ring out or ring in. doesn't
Alex
Hi Brendan W, I do get a ring tone on the desktop Mac app and that is a big improvement to be sure. I don't get a ringtone on mobile as others have mentioned and that feels pretty critical to our team as I'm sure it does to everyone who might find themselves in their kitchen or picking up their kids during a work day.
Andrea Darth Flader
Brendan W didn't ring for myself nor my coworker (we hung up to see if it rang for the other person and it didn't). Using the updated version of the desktop app.

I have a suggestion, what if they create a separate app for chat and audio/video calls. That way, it will pop up when someone call. The reason is if someone send a message I need to go the chat section so I can response or open two tabs 1 for chats 1 for reviewing tasks. If we have separate app it is easier to just use alt tab or go to message without leaving to the task that I'm reviewing it. What do you think everyone?
Ulysse Nizet
Rodel Villanueva No… because the goal of SyncUp is to have everything in the same place. Now I agree with you, we should be able to access chat wherever we are in the app. Facebook has done it, the chats are accessible from bottom of window, wherever you are in the app…
Rodel Villanueva
Ulysse Nizet I agree. I like that approach it will pop up on bottom right like facebook. So they can another icon here. When clicked it will behave like facebook (drop down messages).

Improve SyncUp Call Notifications for Clarity
Praneeth Kakathkar
SyncUps are great, but when one starts, the notification should behave like a call persistent and attention-grabbing instead of appearing like a regular message. The current message-style notification can be confusing, as users might not realize it's actually a call.

Having this same issue and it's a major problem for us. It's not obvious to team members when they are getting a SyncUp call.

Joyce De Los Reyes Brendan Boyle Hey team,
Thanks for this first drop — but let’s be honest: we’re miles away from a "completed" feature.
The reality on user side:
• When you call someone, no clue if it’s still ringing, rejected, or missed. You’re left hanging, waiting like a fool.
• The SyncUp popup hijacks the whole screen. If my coworker isn’t ready to take the call, they have no choice but to reject it.
Take a page from WhatsApp or FaceTime: calls appear in the corner, don’t block work, and let users pick up when ready.
• Try calling back within 10 min? No ring, nothing. Super frustrating — especially for 1-to-1 SyncUps, which matter most.
• If the app isn’t front and center, the callee just gets a basic notification — identical to a task comment. Easy to miss.
Again: this isn’t how calls should work in 2025.
• And the mobile app? SyncUp doesn’t ring at all. That's not an edge case — that’s broken.
ClickUp has massive potential. We’ve moved teams here because we believe in the vision.
But while you build flashy features like Brain Max, we’re struggling with the basics.
Examples:
• Can’t assign task colors by label in mobile calendar — works fine on desktop. Why the inconsistency?
• “Ignore weekends” in planning: nice! But good luck finding a support thread after closing it — no recovery.
• Team chats are buried. You have to exit your workflow just to write a message. Meanwhile, Meta figured this out years ago.
We love ClickUp. That’s why we’re pushing. But we need stable, usable, thought-through features — not MVPs labeled as final.
Telling us for 6 months “we’re working on it”, then hiding behind “beta” for another month and dropping something barely functional… that’s not how you build trust.
Listen to your users.
Build with us, not just ahead of us.
Turjo Mahir
Ulysse Nizet Very well written; you basically spoke my mind.
We have shifted our whole team (500+ members) to ClickUp, but we have been struggling a lot. Especially the mobile app DOES NOT WORK. The experience is very poor on the mobile app.
Ulysse Nizet
Brendan W Reece Atkinson Dean Markley Bulaon JJ Cruz
Joyce De Los Reyes Brendan Boyle What say you?

The SyncUp doesn't close when no one inside it so the ring feature won't work each time. When I call someone (or a group or a channel), the ring feature is working fine, but when the SyncUp has no one inside it (No one in this call) the SyncUp dose not ends (call ended), so If I call the users again the ring feature never works until the SyncUp is ended (call ended), then the ring feature works again
Rakesh Rathore
I dont know, but its not working in my workspace, i tried in the direct DMs and channel but its not working. just a notification is pop up.
how it works ? please help me out ?
V
Vincent D'Amico
Rakesh Rathore If it wasnt for my coworker testing this with me i wouldnt of known it was working. I had sent over some feedback i just felt its strange since the user calling doesnt see that the call is still ringing.
I just think its missing something / indiciation. At one point i remember the sync ups given a better indication when one was active somewhere on the screen for us.
Milton Mendieta
Rakesh Rathore Same for us in our team, we only get a subtle beep (Desktop App) and a Notification PopUp (MobileApp). Nothing like they show in the demo video https://share.clickup-stg.com/clip/s/t333/cdce8fc1-6276-46ec-8b2-cba461a01839/SyncUp%20Ringing%20Demo%20-%20External.mp4
Ulysse Nizet
Hello Brendan W That's great! Thank you very much. However, since SyncUp don't really close and stay open even after all people have left the call, when you call someone again in the few minutes after a first SyncUp, it won't ring again… Which means if you missed call him, then left the SyncUp, and want to call him later before the x minutes timeout of the SyncUp, it won't ring again.
If the person refused the call, she won't enter the SyncUp, but the caller is still hanging alone in the SyncUp
I think you should re-think the way you manage SyncUps
Brendan W
Ulysse Nizet: Hey, there! Yes, the SyncUp will stay open for 2 hours by default, unless there's no one in it for 5 (maybe 10 I forget) minutes.
If someone is in it, and someone leaves, you can always use the invite function to manually ring them again.
Ulysse Nizet
Brendan W It seems you can invite someone manually in a group SyncUp, but not in a one-to-one SyncUp
Brendan W
Ulysse Nizet: SyncUps can only be accessed by users who have access to the Channel or DM already. Since we don't allow inviting users to an existing DM yet, the same stands for inviting to the SyncUp started from a DM.
Lukas Moser
Ulysse Nizet totally agree; I don't understand this behaviors at all. Very confusing for users

SyncUp upgrade Phone Calling Feature
Señor Leo
It’s very important that SyncUp rings like a real phone call—it should keep ringing until the person answers, not just ring once and go silent. At the very least, this should be an option users can activate. Another key point is the lack of group SyncUps or the ability to invite more people or make group calls. This is essential for effective team communication.
