As an organization managing multiple internal teams, freelancers, and external clients within ClickUp, we request an enhancement to restrict group chat/channel creation only to authorized roles such as Members, Admins, or Super Admins.
Currently, any user with access to chat can freely create group chats or channels. While this may encourage collaboration, it can also lead to:
• Unmonitored or unauthorized communication groups,
• Clients or junior staff bypassing communication protocols, and
• Potential security and confidentiality risks.
🛡️ Proposed Controls:
1. Only Super Admins or Admins should be able to:
• Create group chats or channels.
• Add or remove users from these groups.
2. Optional Setting (Toggle in Admin Panel):
• Enable or disable group chat/channel creation for:
• All users
• Specific roles (e.g., Admins, Members)
• Super Admins only
3. Integration with Chat Permissions:
• Users with chat access should only be able to participate in assigned chats, not create new ones.
• Channel visibility should also respect role-based or user-level chat permissions.
✅ Benefits:
• Enhanced communication control within organizations.
• Prevention of unauthorized groups that dilute focus or bypass escalation hierarchy.
• Centralized chat governance by limiting who can initiate official channels.
This level of administrative control is critical for companies that want to fully utilize ClickUp as a centralized operations hub while ensuring structured and secure collaboration.
