Allow in-line replying instead of threads (like Discord, Google Chat, or WhatsApp)
future

Adding nuance to this feature is important so that we aren't limited to just threads for our ability to reply to message: https://feedback.clickup.com/chat-feedback/p/send-threaded-message-to-chat-and-thread
90% of the time all I want to do is quickly reply to a message for the sake of context. There is no need 90% of the time to create an entire thread around a reply, just a simple yes/no answer to a question and showing the connection of that yes/no to the original ask is all that is needed.
Look at Discord, NOT slack as a point of reference for Replies and Threads.
Please please please do not emulate Slacks' terrible implementation as if it was some sort of standard to follow, Discord is infinitely more useable and better of an experience

Quick answers in the chat (Without creating a conversation)
Rafa
In tools like WhatsApp and Discord, this feature is widely used.
Eventually someone wants to respond to someone else in a quick and practical way, without the need to create an internal conversation.
It would be ideal to have the quick reply or conversation feature, or conversation that sends the message to the channel (similar to how it is in Slack with threads).

Enable "Reply" in Chats
Dora Derado Giljanović
As it currently stands, the Chats only support replying in Threads or simply typing a response. This can get clunky. I'd prefer to be able to reply to a message in the same chat as you do in Google Chats or Discord, etc. :)

Message Quote Feature for Quick Replies
Boat
Reply-in-thread is great for discussions that need long, focused conversations without disturbing others. It works really well when a topic is complex and needs multiple back-and-forth messages.
But not every message needs to become a thread. Communication naturally has both short and long conversations. For quick questions or short replies, using threads can feel heavy and slow things down.
In those cases, being able to
quote a message
and reply directly in the main chat is much more useful. It keeps the context clear while making the reply visible right away. This helps team understand faster, scan conversations more easily, and respond more quickly without opening a separate thread.Having both reply-in-thread and quote-reply options would give us more flexibility to communicate in the way that fits each situation best.

Ability to expand/reply to Threads inline in the "main" chat
Mark Khazanovich
While Threads can be convenient, it is often useful to just be able to "reply" to a message (similar to iMessage or FB Messenger) - one way to handle this while having the best of both worlds may be to have the option to start a "Thread" in-line and then expand/collapse the threads in the "main" chat conversation.
It would also probably be helpful to bring chats with threaded replies to the bottom of the conversation so that they don't get missed.

I also need this feature so badly.

the app lags, notifies first and you get messages a while later, there is also no option for quote reply. Please update asap

Make Threads More Easily Visible
Tenille Diel
Currently, it is really confusing to find all new chats because some are in thread (and hidden/collapsed) and others are in the main thread. I hate the thread opening on the side, it would be better if it was just inline with the rest of the chats so it doesn't reduce the chat window even more.
Another request would be to allow chats as a view or as a pinned item in the area they are associated with. We attached a chat to a list and you can't see the chat in the list, you have to go through the chat area to see it. Very frustrating.
Please update the design of these, otherwise chats are not very usable.
