We would like to have a numeric badge similar to the numeric badge for Timesheets so at a glance, we can see number of unread messages.

Will it be clear that the number in the Chat and the number displayed on the Home icon are different, or will the chat be included in the Home number??? Clarity or user-choice should be thought about in this regard.

Angus Innes When the Chat entry point is pinned in the global navigation, the Chat count will not be included in the Home count.
This will also be a setting for the users who do want to keep it all as part of Home!
