Delete Channels from a List/Folder/Space
building now
Alex Looper
Right now, we can manually create channels outside of a list and delete them with no problem. But when we create a channel inside a list using Channel View, there is no way to delete it.
This causes a buildup of extra channels on the backend. We can only hide them, which clutters everything, especially if a channel is created by mistake.
Please make it possible to delete channels that are created through a List → Channel View.

Do not show unused channels in the channel picker
Thibaut
Due to automatic location-based based channels, we have a lot of unused channels. These channels still show up in the channel picker (e.g. when writing
#
) and this is confusing and sub-optimal. It would be great to either have the possibility to remove these channels (I think that's not aligned with how you look at things), or to at lease not show unused channels in the picker.Brendan W

If Chat Channels is supposed to replace Slack, workspace admins need to have FULL CONTROL over channels. Our team doesn't use them because they're overwhelmed by the useless channels cluttering the space. This is one of the few things about ClickUp that I absolutely hate. It's also one of the most nonsensical. Should be an easy and obvious fix.

Bethanna Roland: Just updated the post status, it not being marked as in progress was a mistake - stay tuned!

Brendan W Awesome - thank you! This will be a game changer for us.

Brendan W how about a quick solution to what causes 90% of it - take away the button that causes the issue by being so prominent and encouraging every user to click on it, IMO it should be hidden under view creation. The other problem is that if someone clicks on it, it just creates the channel with no confirmation dialog whatsoever. I don't want channels for 99% of our lists and I am guessing most admins do not. So why put a button front and center that we have to make sure not to accidentally click on?
Bethanna Roland Just an FYI in case you have not already discovered it, if you take away a members rights to create public views, they can no longer create channels, which at least helps solve some of it.

Brendan W I am hoping to get a response from you on this and apologize in advance - my frustration around this issue is high.
Will ClickUp's "fix" for this address the UX flow that is
causing
90% of this issue? Because even if you enable admins to delete channels, you are only fixing one aspect of the problem if users can still endlessly create channels.- Stop putting a button everywhere encouraging users to create these channels. If an admin wants to create a channel, they will!
- To make matters even more insane, I have seen pop-ups appear out of nowhere encouraging users to create channels - "this list does not have a channel, do you want to create one to streamline communication?". I honestly have no words for how someone thought this was a good idea.
- Even for admins, there should be an "are you sure" dialog. Pressing one button should never just create a channel.
- We need permission control on who can create channels that does not impact a user being able to create views. It's insane that I cannot stop a user from creating channels without taking away their ability to create views and folder documents.
I could go on....please fix the UX. No one needs an "add channel" front and center everywhere throughout the program, and permissions should allow channel creation to be an admin only function.

David Haddad: Hey, there! Yes, allowing deletion is just one piece of the puzzle here. To your point about one button being able to create a Channel, once we have deletion, fixing accidental creation is very easy!
We are working to overhaul Chat permissions, which will include being able to set a user's permission level on a Space/Folder/List lower, so that they can't create a Channel on it.
Additionally, a future custom permission so you can control what users (via roles) are allowed to create Channels.

Allow Space / Folder / List Chats to be removed or hidden
Alex de la Fuente
It's not always necessary or appropriate to have a Space-/Folder-/List-specific Chat. It would be nice to remove or hide them.

Deleting different generic chat channels

I notice every projec, list or Workspace created automatically creates chat channels but not all are necessary. So as admin, I should have the ability to remove the people from specific chat channels or even deleting the chat channels without deleting the them from from a specific Workspace

Agreed! Please allow ClickUp users/admins to DELETE "Channels" created in "Spaces", "Folders", and "Lists" ASAP! We can create and delete "Channels" created outside of these locations in the native "Chat" module but currently we can NOT delete "Channels" created in "Spaces", "Folders", and "Lists"... there is ONLY an unfollow button... This makes it VERY frustrating when an "Admin" or "User" accidentally creates a "Channel" by mistake... and then there's no way for us to delete the unwanted "Channel"... besides just "Unfollowing" it... Then other users in the workspace get confused and start using the unwanted "Channel" that was accidentally created... Please fix this feature ASAP... so our workspace does not get cluttered by infinite unwanted channels that are created by accident with no way to delete them... Thanks!
