Clear notification in Inbox when I read the chat
Garrett Moore
Currently, I get a ping about a chat message and it goes to my inbox and shows one in the chat. If I just go directly to the chat and read it, I still have to go clear the pings in inbox.

I’m experiencing a related issue with Inbox and task notifications that highlights a gap in read-state syncing.
When I read a message in my Inbox, it remains marked as unread in the corresponding task or project view. This creates confusion and makes it difficult to trust notification status across views.
Ideally, the read state should be synchronized bidirectionally—reading in either the Inbox or the task/chat should update consistently across all locations.
Here’s a short Loom demonstrating the behavior: https://www.loom.com/share/894afc7f2de843e1afb1e0a4cdeba9ee

When you clear chat in inbox, also clear the unread badge from the direct chat section

Clear duplicate notifications (inbox vs. replies vs. chat channel)

On my home screen (desktop, web browser) I just had little red notification numbers next to three places: Inbox, Replies, and a specific chat channel. I clicked Inbox and read the first notification, which from a person replying to something inside the specific chat channel that also had the notification marker. So now, my eyes have seen the chat reply. I do not need to see it again. But the red numbers didn't go away from beside the word "Replies" or from the chat channel itself. So I click Replies, thinking maybe there's some unique item in there, and it's not. It's the same message. And after that is cleared, I still had to separately click the chat channel itself. This is ridiculous. I don't mind if the red notification dots appear next to multiple places for representing one single message, but I DO mind if seeing that ONE message doesn't clear ALL red dots associated with it.

Mark inbox notifications read when manually viewing the unread item

When I receive an inbox notification, say for a comment on a document, sometimes I'm already viewing the activity panel of that. If I read the unread comment there, it should clear within the inbox. Oftentimes, I'll see inbox +1 notifications for stuff I've already read/actioned.

It is also wild to me that there is a feature for reminding me about something in my inbox but nothing to remove something from my inbox because it is already viewed.

Isaac Maze-Rothstein: Hey there! You can clear notifications manually right here to have them clear from your Inbox:

Brendan W I want this to be cleared if I look at the notification directly. What Steve is saying aligns with what I'm looking for.

This feels like something that if I could turn on in notifications settings it would cut down a lot of time clicking on things that I have already viewed. My initial question when finding this request was:
Is there a setting in clickup where if i have looked at a ticket it will no longer appear in my inbox?
Steve A.
agree, 100% the inbox notifications seem to be disconnected from the rest of the system when it should be simple to link them — clear means cleared haha

Steve A.: Can you expand what you mean by linking them?
Steve A.
Brendan W essentially, what I believe we are saying is that in the inbox there will be a notification that says "Steve, you need to clear," or "you have a notification regarding task XYZ." If I have already been to task XYZ and done something in task XYZ, there's no need for me to clear the notification in the inbox. It's double work.

Steve A.: Thanks for the clarification, Steve!

Also, it would be nice to not send push notifications to my other devices when I sitting on desktop in the chat. I am getting pings everywhere all over my desk on every device, when I have the chat open right in front of me.
It should know when you are using the chat and not send pings everywhere if you are.
