Hey guys — when you share a Sidebar section (like a “Marketing” section), do you want it to pop into everyone’s sidebar automatically, or would you rather teammates opt in and pick which shared sections they want to use or should see?
Jackson James
Brendan W Pop into everyone’s sidebar automatically.
This forces Chat sidebars to be mirrored across all team members. This way, if someone doesn’t know where a specific Chat is, another team member can simply tell them the section it is under and they can find it.

Brendan W Pop into everyones sidebar is definitely the priority ask here.
But there should be a way for Admins to see the layout of the sections and channels that everyone's sidebars are populated with, so that adding channels or more sidebar sections is not done from the sidebar in a fire-at-will kind of way. I imagine this as a Global structure for our Workspace that (like Jackson says) will become a common understanding for everyone.
If you want to be fancy, you can then layer Teams into this, so that if someone is added to a team, they also get the set sections and channels that are assigned to that team.

Jackson James: Thanks, Jackson! Do you think that the end user, each team member that is, should be able to customize the sections themselves still?
I could see the use case for both, where you'd want to lock them down, but also they should be able to customize as they see fit.
Brendan W
Angus Innes: Thanks for the feedback, Angus! Love the connection to Teams!
Jackson James
Brendan W Do you mean customise/create their own sections (not including the chats that an Admin has assigned to shareable sections)?
Yes, end user should still be able to create their own sections, as long as the chats they want to add to their own sections do not already exist in a section created by an Admin.
If you want to retain the option for freedom of sidebar customisation for users, you could:
- Give a toggle option in the Workspace settings to disable/enable users to create their own sections
- Give an option when right-clicking sections to lock the section (prevents recipients from moving chats out of those sections)
Brendan W
Jackson James: I think it's very plausible that a user won't take to the admin-created sections exactly as they are set up, and they might want to customize them (move some things, change sort, pull some things into their own custom sections). So I wanted to hear your take on that!
Jackson James
Brendan W I see. Well, in that case, having a lock option that the Admin can turn on for each section would be a great option then.
If an Admin has shared a section but hasn’t locked it, the recipient is free to organise the channels in the way they prefer.
I will say, even if a section is locked, the recipient should still have the ability to organise the chats in that section (by most recent, alphabetical, favourite, etc.). They just shouldn’t be able to move a chat outside of that section if it’s locked.

Jackson James: Thanks for the feedback, Jackson!

Apply chat sections for everyone
Javier Pena
You can currently classify chats by sections, but that sectional view is only saved for the person who created them. It is important to be able to create these sections universally for everyone, since this avoids confusion and manual work by configuring the sections with each of the workers.

Sharing Chat Sections Across Teams
Emir Yusuf
My team created sections in ClickUp Chat. Unfortunately, it seems we are still unable to align our sections to make this a standard for every team. This would be very helpful for standardizing communication.

Folders for clickup chats

it would be great to be able to create folders for all the team and not only to create sections for individuals

This is an important feature to us to help us make the team more efficient and help organize things for them.

Setting up the sidebar for my team
Alison Dewers
I think that the way that the sidebar is setup should be universal for the entire team, especially when splitting up the chats into different sections. It saves a lot more time having to get everyone's set up the same way.

Making a Chat Section View Accessible to All Team Members
Pauline Bustamante
It would be good to have the Chat sections visible to all team members. Currently, it seems this view is not accessible to them. Having a single, global view would be ideal.

Synchronize chat channel sections for the entire space and members
Thomas DUPUY
The creation of a section and its modification should be synchronized for all members of the space (like on Slack for example).
