Non-bot Participation in Meetings (like with Sparkmail)

The notetaker should have the ability to participate in a meeting without being perceived as a bot, similar to the functionality in Sparkmail.

Hey Paul, how exactly would you like this to be implemented? Like, the bot even named with a human name will still have no camera and stuff. In which use case this might be important?

Alex Lashkov The current gen of tools which are doing this are doing so by recording on the OS level versus going through the conference system. The best in class right now is Granola. Give it a go.
If ClickUp Brain supported this i would be interested in using it, otherwise I'll stick to Granola.
Alex Lashkov
Jonah Kowall we are working on some PoC that is not part of the current notetaker, but Brain-related that does exactly that. Let's see how the testing will go.
Alex Lashkov
Jonah Kowall Posted above, but will do here as well - have you tried using clips to solve this? It actually delivers the same no-bot recording experience - just select an option to record sound only. What do you think?

Alex Lashkov I was not aware of clips, but yes it seems to work. I guess to transcribe I need to add a Brain plan which makes it pretty pricey for both together.
Guy Mannerings
Alex Lashkov What is the time limit on Clips recordings?
Also, the problem with Clips is the Clips Hub is awful. It's just a list of all recordings. There is no way to organise anything (voice comments vs screen recordings, etc, organising by hierarchy, organising under Task name, etc), you can't filter anything, when you click the location of a clip it doesn't actually open the location (e.g., it takes you to the Task but not to the actual recording), there is no useful way to see the clip in reference to anything.
It also doesn't always transcribe items. The reliability of it actually executing a transcription is not 100%, and there is no way to force it to do one if it hasn't already.
Guy Mannerings
Alex Lashkov The other thing with Clips is, I am not sure the Transcription picks up on multiple participants and can format it taking them in to account? I.e.:-
Person 1: blah blah blah
Person 2: blah blah blah
Person 3: blah blah blah
Person 1: blah blah blah
Etc.
Or am I wrong?
Alex Lashkov
Jonah Kowall I think we are getting closer here and I need some volunteers to interview and ask questions on how would you like this built. Will you be available for a quick 15-mins or so convo next week?
J
Jonah Kowall
Alex Lashkov Next week is tough with travel to Europe, speaking gig, etc. Maybe can arrange for Friday from the train.
Alex Lashkov
Jonah Kowall: sure thing! just tell me best time slots for that and I will send an invite!

Alex Lashkov just drop me an email to coordinate please jkowall at gmail

100% agree. We would use Notetaker in a heartbeat if it had this feature - today, we won't until it has this capability.
Alex Lashkov
Taylor Huffman we are testing some PoC solutions that might potentially solve that. Will keep you posted here once smth comes out or be ready for testing!
Alex Lashkov
Taylor Huffman btw, have you tried use Clips for solving this task? It can actually do the same thing - you can enable it and set it to record sound only. What do you think?

Alex Lashkov Can we use AI on Clips to transcribe/create action items? If so, could be a good temporary solution. Also, I don't know if there's a way to have a big library of Clips that are sharable between the team, which is a key reason for having the meeting bot in the first place so that action items/summaries/transcripts are available in the event a team member needs coverage
Rowen Bartolomei
Alex Lashkov Yeah would be ideal, needs to work like the notion AI Notetaker, where it doesn't join meetings, just records system audio and auto-detects when meetings start even if ad-hoc.
Alex Lashkov
Taylor Huffman usually you have a library of clips and each has a sharing link, will that work?
Alex Lashkov
Rowen Bartolomei Understood, I think this might be smth we explore once we clear the backlog a bit with more urgent things like bit deduplication and support for ad-hoc meetings. Have you considered clips as a temporary solution for having recordings without bots joining meetings?
T
Taylor Huffman
Alex Lashkov Unfortunately, I think the value here is a shared library not an individual library of Clips like what currently exists. Shared library would allow users to review all available recordings, of say, meeting recordings with Client X without me having to share individual clips. It probably should be a separate feature request, in fact
Alex Lashkov
Taylor Huffman this we are working on but it is in the current set-up where we have bots joining meetings
Alex Lashkov
Taylor Huffman to help us scope this better, could you hop on a quick call with me next week (ideally)? Got got some questions on how you would like to see it designed + feedback from the experience with solutions that already provide that also would be helpful
Alex Lashkov
Rowen Bartolomei hey! recruiting people for user interviews to help us shape this feature. Would you be open to hopping on a quick call next week?
T
Taylor Huffman
Alex Lashkov Sure!
