Currently, dropdown custom fields in ClickUp can only have new options added manually through the UI. The API and Automations can set a dropdown’s value only if that option already exists.

This limitation makes it impossible to maintain dropdowns dynamically for workflows where new options need to be generated automatically from other lists or tasks.

Requested Feature:

Enable Automations and the ClickUp API to create new dropdown options programmatically.

Example workflow:

-A task is created in List A (e.g., a new client, project, or asset name).

-That task’s name is automatically added as a new option in a dropdown field in List B.

-Other tasks in List B and List C can then use this dropdown for grouping, filtering, and reporting without manual updates.

Benefits:

Eliminates manual upkeep of dropdown fields when source data changes frequently.

Keeps lists, reporting, and dashboards always in sync with live data.

Supports more advanced workflows without relying on external “workarounds” or manual intervention.
