Add Watchers via API
Jake Spirek
Would be super helpful to be able to add watchers via API. Currently I have to set up an integration that adds the requester as an assignee and then swaps them with the actual assignee so they are still on as a watcher.

Thank you all for the feedback. We're just working on some v3 APIs and I'm taking a lot of Canny feedback into account.
Reading this post it seems that its about adding watchers to a Task via API. Correct?
Looking at our Task API docs as of today, there is the option to add and remove watchers.
In case what we have today is not satisfying the needs, I'd love to get more specific feedback.
Thank you

Philipp Berner it’s about forms and about the task creation via the API that don’t support it.
Updating is one step too late and requires an additional call.
Diana Morgan
Philipp Berner Yes, this is what is needed (ideally during task creation but update is workable). Most of these comments predate this being in the API. You can see in Dec 2023, this wasn't a possibility. I'll share this with my team. Thank you.

Philipp Berner, a dedicated endpoint feels no longer needed - the feedback is from the time before it was possible to do via UpdateTask. I also agree with what Diana Morgan mentioned - it would be ideal to be able to set it during Task Creation - an option to specify the watchers with a default being the task creator if the field is missing. This way it won't mess with with existing setups, and an ability to pass an empty array there would be perfect.
My use case is that I have a bunch of custom integrations with 3rd party tools, so I "import" a lot of tasks via API. Having my API key do that results in me being a watcher of literally everything, which is not ideal.

Thank you all. I'll take the feedback into account for our v3 Task endpoints I'm working on. I get it!

I believe everything has been said. I will just add a comment to keep the request alive. It would be extremely helpful to have this feature!

This would be super helpful! I really want to be able to tag watchers on requests when creating an issue using the api!

I'd like to be able to have end users indicate any watchers they want on a task upon submission of the form.
Jonas
This is important for our CRM use case.

That would be very helpful for our cases around bug processing! We really need to have a way to automatically add relevant people to watch the bug progress, e.g. Customer Success Managers, PMs, etc.

I would really like for the ability to manage the watchers for a task via API. For our development workflow this would be game changing for task notifications that are relevant to a developers tasks in our SCM platform.

We use a workaround posting a comment with a mention but it isn't working when we want to add a team as watcher (as we need). Also produce a lot of useless notifications

Yes, this please. It totally breaks my CU experience, I can't use my inbox bc it's flooded, now if I don't use my inbox, how do I see if someone tags me or assigns me a task?
My suggestion was till this built is having an admin/api only seat that is unpaid and that way I can separate the tasks created by api vs me and also have my inbox clean.
The support team didn't like it, I had better luck with a free admin seat idea at other software.

Basically when I create tasks via API. I would prefer to not be the watcher so I wouldn't get spammed with notifications not relevant to me as I'm just setting up a process for a different team in our org.
I'd want to set the watcher to someone who is relevant to be notified by the task.
