2-Way Sync with Google Sheets

Creating selective 2-way syncs between Google Sheets and Clickup would make a huge difference for the better in how my team and I manage our data and troubleshoot issues as they arise.

Hi! Has anyone found a good work around for this?
I have been trying to set up with Zapier but I keep getting an error message for 'Task Name' - kind of losing my mind over here.

My use case is that not everyone on our team uses ClickUp or wants to fiddle around with learning how to be a guest. They are more familiar with Google Sheets. So, if I can work in ClickUp and have the requested info show up in the G-Sheet, we both win. It's not efficient to work in ClickUp and then have to update the tracking documents my team uses.

Thanks for merging my post in Luci N. As someone shared in the Facebook group, there would probably be issues with column order or names changing, and the integration being unable to tell which columns are supposed to go with which fields, so that's something to think about. Not a dev so I really don't know what I'm talking about, but I still have a hunch that's solving this problem might be easier then doing all the work to get click-ups internal formula functionality up to speed with what you have in a spreadsheet. For data people like me, that would be a huge unlock to have full spreadsheet formula functionality pulled seamlessly into ClickUp. I guess the other issue with two-way sync and spreadsheet cells containing formulas would be there would have to be some way to lock manual updating of a ClickUp field that is synced to a spreadsheet formula, or when you click on it to edit the field, it takes you to that cell in the spreadsheet instead (I believe there is a way to create a link to a specific Google Sheets cell, though I don't know if Google exposes that to the API). I feel like the safest option would just be to have the integration recognize when a calculated cell value is being pulled into a field, and throw a warning before letting anyone edit that field, ideally with admin permissions where you could choose to just lock such fields to prevent overzealous employees from messing up your data. Something like "this field is synced with a spreadsheet calculation and cannot be updated and ClickUp. To see the calculation and its inputs, click here."

Two-way spreadsheet sync

For me the main purpose of spreadsheets is the ability to do advanced calculations. I think maybe the best possible workaround short of implementing really robust formulas and functions in click up would be to create a two-way integration between Google Sheets and or Excel where you have a column with the task ID and you just specify custom fields for all the other columns to sync to, two-way. That way you could do all the calculations in the spreadsheet and pull the results into click up in real time.

Zapier doesn't capture all fields in my list, making it difficult to use Zapier for anything related to ClickUp. I get very few fields that appear in Zapier and none capture what I'm really trying to document.
As a user, I'd like to be able to input data into Google Sheets exactly as it would appear in my list (custom fields and all) so that way I can copy/paste large datasets and automatically integrate that data into new Tasks in my list thus saving time.

I believe this is the same request as https://feedback.clickup.com/feature-requests/p/2-way-sync-with-google-sheets Let's merge Nick W. Sydney

there's a truckload of these Sydney. might be worth merging them all and addressing these voters (I'm not one). I'm firmly in the "Ditch Sheets; Use ClickUp Tables" camp, but I get that there are some people who just can't be torn away.

Hey, Michael! Thanks for this feedback and for flagging some of these posts! If our product team has any new details to share about this feature, they'll be sure to update the request!

Michael: I'd be in that camp if and when ClickUp had anything like the same kind of formula and function power as sheets. If you're doing serious data analysis it just isn't there. I mean I love advanced formulas in CU, I think it's really promising and cool, but has a long long way to go.
Michael
Robert McKay: sure - I wasn't advocating using CU as a legit spreadsheet replacement; merely as a (FAR) superior alternative to all these bozos like my employer, who use sheets for general project management & basic calculations. FWIW https://clickup.canny.io/feature-requests/p/formula-column-calculations is now in progress! 💪🏼
