Allow in-line replying instead of threads (like Discord, Google Chat, or WhatsApp)
planned
Ryan Wiancko
Adding nuance to this feature is important so that we aren't limited to just threads for our ability to reply to message: https://feedback.clickup.com/chat-feedback/p/send-threaded-message-to-chat-and-thread
90% of the time all I want to do is quickly reply to a message for the sake of context. There is no need 90% of the time to create an entire thread around a reply, just a simple yes/no answer to a question and showing the connection of that yes/no to the original ask is all that is needed.
Look at Discord, NOT slack as a point of reference for Replies and Threads.
Please please please do not emulate Slacks' terrible implementation as if it was some sort of standard to follow, Discord is infinitely more useable and better of an experience

Hey, there!
Thank you all so much for your feedback about replies and threads - we definitely hear you and want to improve this experience in ClickUp Chat!
We're exploring what it might look like to add
quote replying
to ClickUp, but we need your help! If you have a few minutes, please take our quick survey here!

Quoting one comment from a conversation thread in your new comment

So, you have started a conversation/chat, then someone replies, then someone else replies, then someone else replies etc., etc. Then you want to respond directly to Replier No 17's comment but all you can do is reply to the generic threaded conversation, where Repliers 3, 18, 9, 23 and 11 have since already added to the conversation, and hope that Replier No 17 knows you are responding to their particular comment from 22 comments ago! Yes, I know you could assign the comment but that only tells the Replier that this comment is relevant to them, not that it refers to a particular part of the threaded chat.
Could we have the functionality to 'quote' a comment, as can be done in MS Teams, so the users of the chat know that you are responding to a particular part of a threaded conversation? Would be much appreciated :-)

Quick answers in the chat (Without creating a conversation)
Rafa
In tools like WhatsApp and Discord, this feature is widely used.
Eventually someone wants to respond to someone else in a quick and practical way, without the need to create an internal conversation.
It would be ideal to have the quick reply or conversation feature, or conversation that sends the message to the channel (similar to how it is in Slack with threads).

Enable "Reply" in Chats
Dora Derado Giljanović
As it currently stands, the Chats only support replying in Threads or simply typing a response. This can get clunky. I'd prefer to be able to reply to a message in the same chat as you do in Google Chats or Discord, etc. :)

Message Quote Feature for Quick Replies
Boat
Reply-in-thread is great for discussions that need long, focused conversations without disturbing others. It works really well when a topic is complex and needs multiple back-and-forth messages.
But not every message needs to become a thread. Communication naturally has both short and long conversations. For quick questions or short replies, using threads can feel heavy and slow things down.
In those cases, being able to
quote a message
and reply directly in the main chat is much more useful. It keeps the context clear while making the reply visible right away. This helps team understand faster, scan conversations more easily, and respond more quickly without opening a separate thread.Having both reply-in-thread and quote-reply options would give us more flexibility to communicate in the way that fits each situation best.
