Some tasks are relevant for more than one project. I would be great to be able to host the same task in multiple projects or lists and that every update on the tasks is visible in eached linked project or list.
Update: We've made significant progress on this (very technically complicated) feature, and we will be releasing it in June! 🎉
@Zeb: Thanks so much for pressing through on this one - complexities understood!
@Zeb: woohoo 🎉
@Zeb: Thanks you so much to take attetion on this feature :D
@Zeb: Yeah!!! After all the years. I think this will make ClickUp the ultimate tool. Goodbye Wrike, hello ClickUp.
@Zeb: Hooray! This is GREAT news!! :D
@Zeb: Just today I have found a need for one task to be at two places...and at the same time a hurdle : How on earth to make the same task appear in two lists with different custom statutes... So no wonder it takes so long and is a technical nightmare 💀
Next step would be to have a list linked to two or more projects.
Really needed when multiple scrum teams work on common goals.
@Drag Ivko: Drag, what entity are you using for “Projects “at the moment In ClickUp? I have been torn between Goals & Lists while we wait on Goals v.2, which I will use exclusively for this.i also run software development, in tandem with other biz teams like marketing, content distro, etc.
We are mostly using CU for pre-project work at this point, plus some organization, simple goal tracking and as of recently, publishing project schedule to external stakeholders.
Unfortunately, CU is still not at maturity level where we would be able to use it for actual engineering work planning and management.
And I say that because of the work we do and how we do it:
We are in the enterprise consulting space and work with large financial industry clients on a variety of programs that often require numerous teams to work together.
If the engagement is 6+ months, and most of them are, we introduce the SAFe concept and let the clients keep whatever tool they have and add Targetprocess on top to establish bi-directional sync with teams backlog, bring teams into same cadence, manage cross teams dependencies and other relationships, unify roadmapping, PI planning, release management, reporting, etc...
CU is still not at maturity level where we'd be able to recommend it for eng projects, and honestly, Targetprocess is doing a fabulous job.
Where CU could fit is with smaller clients that are just undergoing transformation but the concept of agile project is still missing.
- Projects (aka folders) are missing easy to use agile framework
- Goals in current iterations do not fit the purpose, though goals are very very promising.
- Standardized estimation framework and a system wide "story point" field does not exist and custom fields are too messy
- Milestone are early in its maturity and still not valuable for our use case.
- Everything is a TASK concept is limiting us.
- Integrations of Docs and Tasks is CU"s strong point
In summ, we are at the minimum looking to the roll out of items below before we can start talking about CU with our clients:
- milestones v2
- additional CU entities: team, product, program, capability, feature, story, epic, bug, test case, test plan, risk, objective
As for non-engineering work, we are happy to present CU to our clients as an alternative to Trello, MS Planner or whatever else Microsoft and Atlassian have pushed on them..
@Drag Ivko: Drag, great, really interesting detail.
My team is developing its own software and I know TargetProcess well in fact. I considered it, even though we are a small team, but actually found it lacked flexibility because it imposes on you certain structures, for example a task must belong to a User Story. The hierarchy is nice, and my hope is we'll get that soon in ClickUp with both expanded Goals folders, and nested Subtasks. Coupled with relations that are much more flexible than the nocode stuff like Coda/Notion/Airtable - which all force a table-to-table relation, but none have the ability to "freely" relate from any entity to any other, ClickUp should leap into a degree of customization not seen anywhere else.
I also think the team is serious about freeing up tasks to be any "type," also a benefit of TargetProcess and some other tools where you can pre-determine your base data record and also assign custom attributes.
It sounds like you are then using Lists as your entity to present your work externally to Clients, and for your planning? I have had trouble with them as they don't sync up well with dates of tasks within them (you can't move dates on the Gantt and have lists sync), have no status, and with the limitation of being able to only have one task in one list, it's hard to figure out whether to use Lists as "categories" such as the way they are treated in Jira or TargetProcess, or "projects," the way you might treat a Release, which cross-team features to be built in one iteration.
Thanks for the response!
This is essential for Everhour integration. In Asana, I currently add tasks to a second client-specific project to track time for specific clients in Everhour. Hopefully when this is added we can a task to multiple lists across different folders.
It is super I can add more than one task (with excel copy) to one list, but it would be superB if I can add this tasks more than one lists. I would like to add same task to lot of list.
I've only been in clickup a few weeks and I already want this. I am creating a marketing content calendar. This will allow us to add a "send email" task with the due date and sync that task to the Email Calendar folder so we don't have to create multiple items and remember to add in both places. This can't come soon enough!
You guys are amazing, thanks for all this listening!! :D
@Nick: Can I ask what direction you've decided to take to implment this Nick?
@Nick: YAYAYAY!!! This is soooo good to hear! Finally can get rid of Asana! Thanks guys, can't wait
@Nick: Major WIN! YES!
@Nick: I was waiting!
@Nick: woot woot
@Nick: Fantastic!! Finally!!
@Nick: Very glad to hear! Only thing keeping me from leaving Asana. What's the expected release date on this feature?!
@Ryan Robillard: Within the next couple of weeks 🙂We've moved it up to the front of our queue since it is our highest requested feature!
@Nick: You guys are going to vault ahead another huge degree with this Nick! Legions of Wrike and Asana users are going to flock, you guys are probably aware of that! And I will have one of my larger challenges in my own ClickUp set up solved, too :).
Can’t wait to see what you guys come up with!
I hope it would be, Actually VIEWING and Having the Same task Available inside Multiple Lists when I go inside those lists one-by-one by clicking on Lists' Names from Lists' Panel and won't be a workaround implemented inside Dashboard or using 'Goals V2' feature.
In the process of migration from Asana... And adding a task to more than one project is a key feature without which migration to ClickUp becomes almost impossible(
We want to move from Asana to Clickup ... And ... We can't due to lack of this feature. Clickup's team? This is MOST REQUESTED FEATURE in your list. For about 2 years. LOL WUT?
This is becoming more and more essential. This is available in JIRA and in ASANA, and we still use both, and in ClickUp, this is one of the most missed features. Hoping this gets to "Progress" very soon, it's been 2 years! Come on guys :)
