Update Feb 2026: Hi everyone - this feature is still on the backlog, but we will share updates here as they are available. Thanks!

Mr Simon
A useful feature would be allowing subtasks to inherit standard and custom field values from their parent task. When a subtask is created, it would automatically copy the parent’s field values, saving time and keeping task information consistent.

Hi Caroline Ginty
I am looking at this feature but built into automations to give maximum flexibility to the user
The principle would be to set a trigger at the parent task level and then set the action to happen only to sub-tasks, ideally with a filter option in the actions similar to the one in the "Triggers"
This solution would allow users to achieve the inherit custom fields of parent tasks as per the original request BUT with much more flexibility
A use case is:
Trigger
- for parent task only - [field] (custom field or other) is set to {X}Action
- for SUB-TASKS only - [any field] is set to {any value} - where the subtask field could be the same field with the same value as be parent field value OR crucially a different field and different value is possible to be set on the subtask level when the above trigger happens at parent taske level
Multiple outcomes with one solution that also addresses the original request here
There are 5.1k votes on this one - seems like one of the highest voted feature requests but still not being worked on?

This would save so much time!! Glad to see that it is planned, and I hope it isn't too long!

Add a feature with the % Task Complete field to auto calculate Parent tasks from subtasks! For any PM this is a critical indicator when showing status to stakeholders.

Adding vote here: having this possibility for each task column to summarize the subtask's content (assignee, dates, status, time spent) is gold. A lot of other similar platforms do that, please ClickUp give us this.

The time and manual work that this feature would save users is immense. This should definitely not be a backlog request (since 2019). I'm hoping the priority of this will be acknowledged and raised, and that we will see updates on this very soon.

Kristina Ota it's wild that this still isn't implemented. There's too much focus on "fancy" (for lack of a better term) features at the expense of basic functionality.

this would be soooo helpful! really hope it makes it off the backlog asap!

This would be useful, and a lot better than nothing which is still the current state of affairs.

Agreed. I was also surprised that this is not possible.
