Variables for Templates (task name, description, etc.)

Allan Nygren
We launch products that have different names and would love the ability to have variables within project templates for task names and descriptions.
For example, when you spin up a new project for launching 'Project Alpha', it would be great to be able to put the Project Name into a field and have that populate through all the tasks with Project Name in the task title or description.

Introduce ability to add "placeholder"/"dummy" drop down fields to templates

We use clickup to manage digital marketing work for our clients. One of our workflows relates to creating content clusters for client's SEO work.
I recently added a drop down to our "content creation" task template with the aim of me being able to assign content ideas to a parent content cluster category. The values of those content cluster categories would naturally different per client. I initially set the dropdown values in the template to "Primary cluster 1", "Primary cluster2" etc as I had (incorrectly) assumed that I would be able to subsequently rename those values at client level. However, when I did so, I observed that the dropdown values within the parent changed to match.
Desired behaviour:
To be able define dummy values for a drop down at task template level, and then be over to redefine those values at a lower level (e.g. list level) without it changing the parent template.
Example use case:
Client A (A digital agency):
* "Primary Cluster 1" changed to: "SEO"
* "Primary Cluster 2" changed to: "Social Media"
* "Primary Cluster 3" changed to: "PPC"
Client B (A eCommerce site selling products):
* "Primary Cluster 1" changed to: "Cameras"
* "Primary Cluster 2" changed to: "Phones"
* "Primary Cluster 3" changed to: "Printers"
Client C (A client offering gardening services) :
* "Primary Cluster 1" changed to: "Lawns"
* "Primary Cluster 2" changed to: "Hedges"
* "Primary Cluster 3" changed to: "Wildlife"

It would be nice if we could either find & replace or append the title to lists &/or tasks when creating templates

Ability to set naming conventions when a template is loaded

Clickup wants to save us time and one time waster is updating names of tasks for templates.
Have a way for us to set a template for the task name so it auto generates.

Task title in Templates

George
From support: It would be nice if we were able to save a task title separately from the Template title. I want to save our users some time to input the task name and have it pre populated with some static info on it.

Yes! This essential for consistency across our spaces and projects. For specific task types I would LOVE to ensure that we are able to set the task name with field tags so our naming is consistent, searchable, understood by all... Thanks!

The more I look into trying to become a power user of clickup the more I realize how many features are lacking. Why can't templates take variable??? One would think this would be a common since feature for any type of project management. Why can't sub tasks take on a name??? I hope clickup fixes this because I am about to jump ship with the cost increasing and the productivity not being increased.

Yes, please! It would definitely help to brain dump tasks faster.

We are interested in the ability to use variables within templates, allowing for seamless customization without the need to manually check and modify all folders and tasks manually.
The proposed feature would enable users to fill in or adjust variables through forms and incoming webhooks.
This functionality would greatly enhance efficiency and flexibility in Clickup user's processes.
Variables such as for example:
{{client_company}}
{{client_name}}
{{client_email}}
{{client_domain}}
{{current_date}}
We believe incorporating variable usage in templates would streamline the workflow and improve overall productivity.
Your consideration of this feature request would be highly appreciated.

Yes, I agree. The templates should have the ability to remap dates and stuff according to the state in which it was saved

Or it can help me create an automation in which clickbot creates a task with following properties:
- Its name contains the date on which I need to complete it
- the newly created task will be a subtask of another fixed unautomated task
- and it also shows up as an all day event on my calendar with appropriate visibility on the assigned to me card on home and mobile also mobile widget.
- Task template and task tags
Eg. I want to create an automation that can help create a task of type:
Name- Journal Today: (TODAY'S DATE) with start date as today and due date also as today. Task type as journal and appropriate tags.
Another eg. Name- Read Newspaper: (TODAY'S DATE), with a task template with appropriate prompts to help me engage with my task and retain it better.
