Dynamic/Relative Dates for Automations (ex: 7 days before due date)
planned
Joey
Examples:
- "7 days before the start date..."
- "Each Monday..."
- When ANY date changes to ANY date
- Use Date custom fields as automation triggers
- Be able to use Automations to change items such as Due Dates using relative dates, I.E. "Next Monday"
- "When a task becomes overdue I can then set it to 'Done'"
- Etc.

Hey everyone,
Thank you for your patience here everyone!
We plan on starting the foundational work soon that will unlock the ability for us to enable relative dates for time-based automations.
You might have seen an older video that I created where I suggested we'd start with conditions, but after reviewing feedback and talking as a team, we now believe that adding the triggers first would benefit more workflows. Here's the order we're thinking:
NEW Triggers
- Due date is...
- Start date is...
- Custom field date...
- Current date is...
Looking forward to getting this in your hands! Please let us know if you agree or disagree with the order of items we're going to tackle along with the focus on triggers.
Thanks all 🙏

Maybe other people would use this too, but I know it would be extremely helpful for us. We use ClickUp to help track our receivables, and each customer we work with is on different Net Terms. So we input their Net Terms as a # field (ex. 30). Then we input the date that we send our invoice to them.
It would be awesome to have an automation where a custom field date could also be adjusted by a number field. So for example:
- When Custom Field Date "Invoice Date" is set, AND "Net Terms" is set, THEN...
- Set Custom Field Date "Expected Pay Date" to Custom Field Date "Invoice Date" + the number of days in "Net Terms".
For example, if Invoice Date is 4/26/2024 and Net Terms is 30, the Custom Field "Expected Pay Date" would automate with a date of 5/26/2024 (and change dynamically if Net Terms is a different number).

We'd love to see some triggers like this:
of days before Custom Field Date
Week before Custom Field Date
On Custom Field Date
of days after Custom Field date
And actions that are to Set custom field dates
When trigger happens set custom field date to x days before Due Date
Thank you!

Also adding custom automation based on week day will be helpful in case people use as statuses week day names. Example: if due date on Monday, than apply status Monday, if due date is Tuesday, apply Status Tuesday. Or if due date is Tuesday do xxxx like move to list xxxx or assign task to Jack.

Thanks for the update Zach. Will there be an option to address the following as part of the changes to the date options:
"Personally, I'd like to be able to set "This month" (e.g. without having to pick a specific date) or "Next month" (again, without having to set a specific date.)
Example use case:
IF due_date = a date next_month (whatever month that may be) THEN, send an email to the dev team with the task info, so they can plan what's coming their way and plan next months resources."
Thanks

That would finally help me create a CRM in click up, that was the essential feature for it. If you can add as Levi Bretz said an option to skip the week end that would be the ultimate feature for us.

I would love a recurring option for this and the ability to use reoccurring dates, like the 3rd Monday of the month.

In your build out please consider “business days” as an option or “skip weekends”. So if I have a request come in for my team and I want it to be due in 3 business days I can build that.

Levi Bretz: I've noted those feature requests down!

Custom date is the game changer !! Please make that the priority, it’s like the wildcard that opens up massive possibilities

Are you planning on adding the ability to have tasks recur on a specific business day?
Zach - ClickUp
Adam Haney: It wasn't in the immediate scope, but I've added a task for that!
