New Chrome Extension
beta
Alex Lashkov
Good news! We're rebuilding the ClickUp Chrome Extension from the ground up -- AI-first, faster, and free from the reliability issues of the past.
To make sure it fits seamlessly into your daily workflows, we'd love to know:
👉 What other Chrome extensions do you use regularly?
(e.g. writing assistants, screenshot tools, video clip recorders, AI copilots - anything!)
This info will fuel our roadmap + ensure compatibility with tools you already use!

Hi Alex,
I came to request some features in "create task from email' in the current chrome extension:
- An option for dates to be interpreted as DD/MM/YY rather than American MM/DD/YY,
- An option not to automatically follow a task I create, as I delegate tasks using this extension and have to manually unfollow them.
Finding talk of a new AI first extension didn't sound great and then after install the ClickUp Brain Extension, it was confirmed. Please just continue to provide solid basics with optional AI add ons instead of baking AI into everything as a default and making things worse.
Alex Lashkov
Julian Batten at this point we will not be developing old extension. So we can discuss how we could make a new one work better for you.
One thing is following your CU account setting for the date, right? What other requests do you have/what is not working in this case?
J
Julian Batten
Alex Lashkov thanks for the reply - when using the click up app dates follow DD/MM/YY, which is correct for me. The extension does not.
The other request is an option not to follow task created from the extension, as I delegate task to other team members and do not need notifications on by default for these.
One more request would be to able search for team member by initials rather than full name, as you can in the app. As well as search for myself with my name or initials, not just 'me'
Funnily enough, as I'm writing this the extension has broken again (maybe chrome updated) - last update didn't break the extension so I thought this might have been resolved. I guess I'll remove it, reinstall and relink account again! Looking forward to an new extension that provides reliable useful features and doesn't focus on AI :)
Alex Lashkov
Julian Batten: yeah we are trying to keep our heads above the water with all of the things happening and add some non-AI features to a new one!

Hey, Alex Lashkov I think I may have found a bug using the extension in Microsoft Edge, when changing the extension’s site access setting to “On click” (so it’s only available to a website when clicked, instead of being available on all sites).
When I try to use voice mode in this configuration, the extension signs me out. After that, I’m unable to sign back in: the sign-in page lets me enter my email, but the “Continue” button stays greyed out and can’t be clicked. The only workaround I’ve found is to reinstall the extension. This does not happen if I don't change the configuration as mentioned above.
Alex Lashkov
Liam this is weird. Can you pls record a clip of this issue and send me here or via email? Edge is not officially supported yet, but anyways interesting bug..
Liam
Hey Alex Lashkov, I've recorded that clip for you — what email address should I send it to?
And both Chrome and Edge use the same browser engine (Chromium) under the hood. So, if what I found originates from the render layer, then it could present in Chrome also — though unlikely being a extension issue; likely a permissions thing.
Alex Lashkov
Liam hey, sorry this got lost a bit. Email is alashkov@clickup.com, will be on it right away!
Liam
All done Alex Lashkov.
Alex Lashkov
Liam: yeah for other folks reading - I could reporduce the issue, and we will be looking into it! We will see what we can do!
Jason Joseph
Hey Alex, hope you had a good weekend.
Im sure its already come up, but in this rebuild, could it please be considered to add the ability to reposition the Brain icon in the bottom right of the browser.
There are too many things it competes with. (And it has from the jump felt like a step backward to have it locked in place considering the original CLickUp browser app has always been able to be repositioned.
(RE: Other Chrome extensions...
I use Cloze ( https://ai.cloze.com/platform/real-estate-crm/ ) which is a CRM that while designed for Real Estate, has a few features that ClickUp would benefit greatly from. 1- It opens as a side bar in LInkedIn and can create a contact from the persons Profile, or from a Company's Page. And 2- It lets you set types of connections, Acquaintance, Team Member, Lead, Client, etc., etc., you can define them. For each, it let's you customize how often you get a reminder to contact that person based on the group they are in, and if you haven't reached out to them within that amount of time. That feature alone has always been leaps ahead of all else available and it lets you connect your phone as well so it knows when you've messaged them wether it is via email, text or phone call. It is a very powerful toolset.
The other I would love to see in ClickUp, is something like Scribe: https://scribe.com/ It allows users to easily record, document, and share SOPs. I think ClickUp could actually use this to help outline its own How-Tos for its client base. It is an incredibly enabling tool. Please have a good look through it when time allows. Clips in ClickUp does allow for explaining things, but this goes a step further for those times when step by step explanations are better presented with each step clearly outlined. )
Alex Lashkov
Jason Joseph wow these are cool ideas, especially about LinkedIn enrichment. I really like that, but I am not sure how that fits into the current roadmap. But will do some evaluation on what is can be done here. For now our focus is to make the app more functional for top email websites, then see what we can attack next.
For the clips in extension, yeah, I was thinking of it from the day one of this project, it is just also a question of resourcing and multiple priorities. But this is smth that is on our radar, just need to get to a place where we have a headspace to assess it properly.
P. S. On the moving icon here and there, we used to have several options of where you can pin it in the desktop version of MAX, but there were some technical difficulties that forced us to remove it. I will talk more on that internally too.
Jason Joseph
Alex Lashkov good luck (as always), on all fronts.
Alex Lashkov
Jason Joseph thanks, will be doing our best to move the needle here!

Please add the ability to select My Personal List as a destination when creating tasks from the extension. Currently, only Spaces, Folders, and Lists are available, but not My Personal List. This would make it much easier to quickly add personal tasks.
The feature of adding tasks to ClickUp from Gmail is amazing, please keep it.
Jason Joseph
Diana S I second both of these requests.
Alex Lashkov
Diana S yeah we already have a PoC that can do both things! Just need to polish the UX here because it is a bit different from what we used to have in the old extension
Alex Lashkov
Jason Joseph gotcha!

Alex Lashkov It would be really helpful if the extension allowed us to set custom field values at the time a task is created.
For example, we use ClickUp for support tickets. Often, tickets start from an email or chat, and we create the task directly using the ClickUp extension. As part of our workflow, we try to capture specific details like task start date and other custom field data. Right now, that requires creating the task first, then going back into ClickUp to find it and manually update those fields.
Being able to set custom fields directly within the extension during task creation would save time, reduce back-and-forth steps, and help ensure more consistent data capture from the start. Alex Lashkov
Natalie Williams
Shawn Clement, having custom fields available within the extension would be a huge time saver.
Alex Lashkov
Shawn Clement responded on that in another thread, yeah. I will do some digging on how we best implement that and if the AI can do it seamslessly
Alex Lashkov
Natalie Williams understood!

Wanted to just follow up on this to say I think you're on the right track with us no matter what people are saying. If they don't have AI, they don't have AI. But we need the application extension to be able to have the full context of the actual task, not just what's visible on the image.
And of course having the safe prongs to be able to dump things to specific rules would be super helpful. Because it's coming up as we're actually doing these things. We need to have these specific rules and things in place. So if I want to use automations to help me with this. I could use an automation or if I want to use an agent to help, then I could use an agent to help. But I need to have a way to do that.
Alex Lashkov
Vincent D'Amico Happy to hear that! We are thinking of how we could satisfy some non-AI workflows asks, but agents and things like that is the key for unlocking real productivity anyway
V
Vincent D'Amico
Alex Lashkov sounds great, and I would love it and have been pushing for non ai features for 4 years.
Would love to see Custom Fields for Spaces load to be able to Intake information based on what Space I need to create a task for. Sometimes I also work between different Clickup workspaces between companies that use the platform.
Alex Lashkov
Vincent D'Amico: that may be a bit too advanced for our level now, I was talking more of a way of creating tasks/attaching emails via clickthrough workflows, but we will see what we can do!
LBell
Alex Lashkov Thinking more on this, attaching the email isn't ideal, as often there's a bunch of stuff that doesn't need to be in Clickup (and visible to others). I'd love JUST a link back to the email.
To that point, for gmail, changing the link from:
to
makes the link work even if I archive the message out of the inbox.
Alex Lashkov
LBell I see, it is a bit different use case + we also want to cover Outlook and Front with the same mechanism, working with URLs there might be different. We will need to do a digging here, but thanks for the hint!
Adrian Arama
The most important feature was the email integration, adding the possibility to create tasks from email by adding the email as attachement. This was removing the friction of going into the app and creating tasks, filling all the mandatory fields and so on.
For technical teams or teams that work on tickets (responsive approach vs planning), this was golden.
Please make sure that rules and automations apply to these kind of tasks created from the extension, as this feature was buggy in the older version.
Looking forward to, as this is making major improvements in usability
Alex Lashkov
Adrian Arama we work on adding this easy clickthrough way of adding a task from email. What exactly was not working automations-wise there though? Not sure I understand that part fully.
Adrian Arama
Alex Lashkov Hi Alex,
Thanks for picking this up. Let me explain my comment in more detail
Every list contains certain custom fields, automation rules, mandatory fields and so on.
When using the chrome extension to add tasks from Gmail in the past, these tasks were bypassing the rules set for that particular list, space.
Mandatory fields were not required, because the extension interface was "reading" only the basic fields like "assignee", "priority" and "deadline".
If I had 2 mandatory fields set for the list, let's say "Customer" (dropdown) and "type of service" (label), I was not able to set these fields from the extension and creating the task with complete information.
Also if the certain list had an automation set, let's say another label custom field that should be added when a task enters a certain status, the automation was not applied to the tasks created through the extension.
This is what I meant, I hope it is more straight-fw now.
One thing to alwasy keep in mind is that people hate to introduce data in more than one place. Even worse, most of technical people don't do it at all because they are more focused on the solution that on documenting the requirement.
For us, the ability to create tasks from emails with 2-3 clicks was the main reason why we moved from Jira to ClickUp. It made it easier for people to use the app
Jason Joseph
Adrian Arama I second this. The Mandatory Fields need to be better addressed via the Extension.

Yann CHEKROUN
Is it planned to let us use the saved brain prompts in the extension as well?
Alex Lashkov
Yann CHEKROUN hey! yes we have task for that, but just limited capacity to pick it up right away
Neel C
I really need the notes feature in it, previously was also not usable due to bugginess. This time seems very seamless & snappy, but now can't take notes at all. Notes is the most important one for us, so please let us know when it is going to be added. Overall speed wise looks great but this AI first thing unfortunately is starting to be very annoying for us as they don't add that much value as much these basic features will and yet you guys are prioritizing that. Hope you understand
Alex Lashkov
Neel C can you pls elaborate more on the notes in the extension exact use case? We do not see this ask often and therefore this feature was not yet prioritized for porting from an old one to be frank
Natalie Williams
Alex Lashkov I used the notepad feature all the time until it became so dang buggy that it cost time rather than saved it.
I always kept a quick list for anything that pops to mind while working to keep apps/tabs to a minimum. (These are not always things that require tasks.)
Anything that gets referenced while working, I kept in notes (i.e. code snippets, visual brand details, common responses, links referenced for specific projects).
There are other ways to do this, of course, but having the notes right there in the extension, no matter where I was working saved so much time and kept my digital workspace clutter-free.
Neel C
Alex Lashkov According to GTD rule or any productivity method, first comes capture, where you do capture your thoughts? In notes right? and when you are in a meeting or reading an article you have something to quickly jot down, thats where the notes feature come in. If clickups wants to be an all in one platform tool, ofcourse the notes come very important and it needs to be easily accesible to capture. Right now I have kept a notes card in my dashboard in clickups desktop and keep it always open but just for fast notes jotting down to keep all information in one platform, I need a whole dashboard and application kept open that isn't much helpful. Or going inside clickups and then opening notes to capture is not really fast and convenient as much the addon would have made as it literally roams around with you. Thats my thought, but I know one customer needs, you won't build the feature, but please actively ask customers to see if they are just using outside tool as they had to give up on clickup extention notes as it was really annoying to use just like how I gave up and used Microsoft sticky notes then. Hope this feedback helps.
Alex Lashkov
Neel C yeah this is helpful, thanks! I am not yet sure that extension is the best place for this kind of notes (like for meetings, should not it be better integrated with notetaker for e.g.) thouhg, but will plan some time to do more diggin on that!
Neel C
Alex Lashkov True, the note taker is there, but still I found you need to capture some information in your notes. Some do it in physical notepad and some in digital. I prefer in digital that way easy to copy and share or turn into tasks. For example, you are watching a video and something came in mind, instead of going to clickups and create task rather you capture that thought fast in your own way. Sometimes some info I don't know if I want to create a task for it or do something after talking with some, will decide later the next step but just put it down written somewhere. For me, I always clean my notes so itself doesn't become a huge task management, hence a simple clean notepade to jot things done and thing later what to do with it is very useful and for me quite fundamentable. But maybe you are right the extension is not the best place but then what place or combination place and what way is right so that its just one place I am always putting my notes and later clarifying and cleaning is something you can think about.
Alex Lashkov
Neel C this sounds like a feature we were exploring for our efforts around a no-bot notetaker. That way you would not need the browser extension to solve this specific issue.
LBell
Can we stop with the AI drool-fest and just let me easily create a task from what I'm looking at?
90% of the time it's a Gmail message. Occasionally it's a grant application webpage I need to remember.
None of that requires AI mucking things up.
Alex Lashkov
LBell we are working on that too!
Natalie Williams
LBell agreed! I just need to be able to create a task or bookmark a link. I don't need anything to be done with it no AI summaries or recommended tasks or action steps. Honestly, there are things that people spend time doing with AI that don't need to be done in the first place, which is the opposite of being productive.
Natalie Williams
Jason Joseph yes the original extension does, but it's buggy.
