New Chrome Extension
in progress
Alex Lashkov
Good news! We're rebuilding the ClickUp Chrome Extension from the ground up -- AI-first, faster, and free from the reliability issues of the past.
To make sure it fits seamlessly into your daily workflows, we'd love to know:
👉 What other Chrome extensions do you use regularly?
(e.g. writing assistants, screenshot tools, video clip recorders, AI copilots - anything!)
This info will fuel our roadmap + ensure compatibility with tools you already use!

A Chrome extension is a fantastic idea; it just makes it so much more integrative into the actual experience. I know that maintaining extensions can be quite a bit harder in some ways, more difficult than maintaining a webapp, but it also gives you more power to interact with the desktop in a way that can be quite useful. II know I'm not the one the has to make it, but I'm all in favour! As for other extensions, I primarily use those that remove advertisements (I know, I'm a leach), as well as those that make it easier/possible to download video that has been encoded via e.g. DASH, rather than simple HTML5, as without specialised software, one cannot just right-click and download. I use a TTS application to make reading longer articles easier, a dark mode switch, tab-copyer (select all the tabs to copy and, and you copy their URLs), 1 Password, and Tampermonkey, for various different purposes.

I think it would be awesome to have a button option:
Create and Close (create the task and go back to work)
Create and Open (to add more detail to the task)
Create and Track (to dive right into the task at hand and start time tracking because you are executing a task from the email NOW)
Alex Lashkov
Stefani DiGiovanni why do we need a button for that? We could ask AI to do this from a sidebar while you are in Gmail or on any other website on the web. This way, it will be instant and you do not have to interrupt your current workflow.

Alex Lashkov so exciting to see this in progress! One click closer!
Alex Lashkov
Vincent D'Amico you have no idea how close it is haha. We are working very hard to make the v0 happen ASAP.

Alex Lashkov Good Friday my friend, hope you and your team are doing well. Anything on this Happy Friday dropping? lol. I can dream <3 We eager over here every week.
Alex Lashkov
Vincent DAmico not that fast haha, but I can say that we are already working on onboarding for the new app. Hopefully in a couple of weeks there will be an internal testing and once we understand that things are stable enough, we will invite external testers. You will be on a list for sure!

Allow setting the Start Date within the extension when creating a new task from email.
My workflow relies on creating new ClickUp tasks from emails. But since our tracking process requires every task to have a Start Date, I have to break out of my email processing work everytime, switch into ClickUp, and set the start date, then switch back to email to continue processing. I can add a whole lot of helpful detail that actually could wait until later. But I can't set the start date which I need to set at the point of creation.
Thanks for considering!
Alex Lashkov
Kimberli M. Kelmor that is useful feedback. We are trying to include dates selection into the new Gmail-to-Task capture feature. Need to further experiment with that to polish the UI

PLEASE MAKE ALL AI USE OPTIONAL AND ABLE TO BE COMPLETELY TURNED OFF FOR ANY CONNECTION WITH A GIVEN WORKSPACE!
I'm a heavy user of the Chrome/gmail extension - it's ease of use is one of the things that drew me to ClickUp in the first place. So many many thanks for devoting time and resources to improve it!
First and foremost, Please please please give us the ability to completely turn off any AI components. My institution is very rigid and does not allow AI use at all. If there were AI, especially in the browser which interacts with Institution email, they would ban ClickUp (not just the extension) immediately. There would just be no way around that. They have yet to approve a single AI application, and unsanctioned use with institution data is a fireable offense.
Alex Lashkov
Kimberli M. Kelmor but ClickUp itself already has Brain in it which is AI. Does this qualify to be allowed by your institution? I mean, if the AI is not doing stuff automatically and you need to ask it questions

Creating or updating tickets directly from GMail would be extremely valuable. If general task email functionality within ClickUp itself were enriched this would also be a big win.
Alex Lashkov
Michael Bopp Can you please explain in more detail how this should be enriched and in what use cases that would improve your workflows? Thanks Michael!
Michael Bopp
Alex Lashkov, I would say that what's ideal for us would be less of a do-it-all Chrome plugin (although that would be fine) and tighter integration with email, primarily in terms of keeping and adding email conversations in task comments. Whether this is via a Chrome add-on or some other mechanism is irrelevant to us.
The one specific action that would help is simply having a way to easily add or move a new email into ClickUp as a task. I realize CU has email integration, but it's not quite robust enough to rely on as a primary mode of communication (it also comes with a cost).
Also, when the task is added to ClickUp via email, the more it can help format the email in a simple and understandable way would be a big win.
The summary of the use case is this: An email is received from a client detailing a support request. We want to move this into ClickUp in as few steps as possible with the result being a well-formatted task.
Michael Bopp
I also want to add that the existing addon did a pretty good job, but would stop working within a few days or weeks, and require a lot of troubleshooting (uninstalling, etc). So the main issue wasn't how it interacted with GMail, and more related to it's stability.
Alex Lashkov
Michael Bopp yeah, stability and performance is the key focus for the new app right now!

I use the extension to send requests via Gmail and WhatsApp. Since I manage recurring tasks in ClickUp, I can't always check if I’m adding the email to the correct task — it only shows the task name and code; it would be helpful if the task due date appeared as well. I also use it on WhatsApp, but there I can only add items by capturing a screenshot.
Alex Lashkov
Contrapartida Contabilidade understood, thanks!

Have tried to use Clickup extension for years to turn any email requiring action into a Clickup task, but can't because the extension won't keep functioning with Gmail for more than a few weeks. Core functionality of actually creating or attaching Gmail messages to tasks would be a great start (with persistent link to task in message UI as has been in the past; opening right to the task from relevant threads to know there is already an existing task is a huge timesaver).
Expanding to allow task create or embed in Chat would be a big upgrade (like Slack works).
Searchable Linking of clickup tasks or docs within gmail messages, docs, calendar would streamline a lot.
Actually searching Drive files for link with filename in Clickup without having to authorize access every time would remove a big pain.
Legit new functionality would be a version of what Alex Norton said, replacing my google sidebar, except for Calendar instead of Tasks. Quickly add clickup tasks to my calendar on the displayed day (from scratch, or from emails). Display User's Priorities or Tray (by user choice) under the calendar. Drag & Drop rescheduling of time blocks - basically bring Clickup's Homepage Calendar + Priorities list into my Gmail sidebar.

Rob Riccio do you only see the use of this potential sidebar from our extension only for calendar, or other your use cases can be also managed like this?
Roy Huiskes
Rob RiccioI agree, just an workspace app in the sidebar (like trello) would be great. Create a task with some kind of triage system, connect to the email thread and that's it.

Nice!!! It’s definitely time to give the Chrome extension a refresh with Ai.
These are some of the top features and capabilities we would love to see in the Chrome extension:
- Ability to use ClickUp Brain to search our ClickUp Docs & Wikis
- AI note taker and the ability for us to select which list to add tasks during the meeting. If possible, also being able to select where to save a copy of the video in our G-Drive during the meeting.
- Capability to select our preferred AI model and log in to it, enabling it to access the user's history
- Improvements on how we add tasks to our list and subtasks so new team members can maneuver quickly.
- Being able to search our connected apps - Google Drive Specifically
- Create and start a ClickUp Clip from the extension itself.
Tools our team currently uses:
- Fireflies (Meeting assistants)
- Tengo or Scribe (step by step guides)
- Loom and ability to share with anybody (Screen Recording)
That's all I can think of for now. Cheers!
Alex Lashkov
Alfonso De La Torre if we are talking about the extension and you, say, have an AI built into it and can interact with the webpage you are on, what would the exact use case for searching connected apps be in that case?
Thanks for the tools list, super helpful!

Our team emails vendors and attends HOA community board meetings daily. The ability to avoid switching tabs to the G-drive to search for a vendor bid or legal doc's, etcetera, to quickly link into the ClickUp task being created or add into an email were working on as well. This would help our team save time from something that they do hundreds of times daily.
Hope that helps clarify the use case a bit.
Alex Lashkov
Alfonso De La Torre It does, thanks so much!
