Lots of discussion below, I am quite new to ClickUp, and I am quite okay with the inbox feature.
I just miss the option to send a task to the tray directly from this view.
If you like the idea, help me vote this up:

I don't understand the point of trying to "reinvent" the inbox?!
All I (and I'm sure everyone else) wanted was just a central place to quickly jot down tasks before you forget them. The inbox in other task/project managers, as well as the GTD system, is always a temporary place to quickly jot down your tasks. Then later, when you have the time, you go through and categorize all your tasks, adding them to projects/lists/etc..
The issue with the Clickup inbox is that there are too many things in the way in an attempt to just be "different".
First, we have the issue that when you create something in the inbox, it's always a reminder by default (until you later add it to a list). Then we have the issue that after creating a reminder, because it's not actually a task, this means that you don't get access to certain features. You can't add priorities, can't use statuses on them, can't add notes, can't add subtasks, etc.. On top of that, once you do finally move a reminder to a list (to turn it into a task), then you have to go through the additional step of removing the due date because every reminder always defaults to being due that day...
Too much work! Why can't we just quickly create a task from anywhere in Clickup and it defaults to being a blank task (except the title you gave it) and goes straight into the inbox? So simple, yet Clickup makes it overly difficult...

Steven: I agree. But I think the idea is to make CU more a project manager and not a GTD or Todo App. Many things are missing like a great working mobile app, location based reminders, a "typical" Inbox, easy access to tags etc. Yes, some of this features are requested (or in progress) but currently CU cannot replace Todoist or a similar app because you are a lot quicker with this apps for GTD and/or daily planning.

Frank Arnold: This. If you are looking for a fast and simple task management tool, there are more focused alternatives. That being said, I came the opposite way - my needs have overgrown the scope of Todoist/RTM/whatever. Also, when you see "Inbox" in CU, you should read "Focus". IMO.

Jan Dvořák: The principle of an Inbox is productivity method independent. Having a real Inbox has nothing to do with all the other features available in Clickup. If the current Inbox is a Focus area it should say Focus area.

Pascal Zweipfenning: That's exactly correct! Frank and especially Jan just don't get it. Telling people "hurr durr, if you want a real inbox then go use Todoist, durr..." doesn't fix the issue.
Everyone was requesting an ACTUAL inbox for ClickUp and they finally agreed.. and then we just get this weird "dashboard" thing instead which is an "inbox" in name only.

Steven: Thanks.

"Frank and especially Jan just don't get it. Telling people "hurr durr, if you want a real inbox then go use Todoist, durr..." doesn't fix the issue."
To think that the software will be exactly what _you_ want and _only_ what you want is entitled, and to read your childish post directed at Jan and Frank is embarrassing. You may not agree with them, but they both presented reasonable and well intended comments to you. You may have made some good arguments, but once I read your "hurr durr" comment I couldn't care less to read what you had to say.

Steven: I do agree with you that the current Inbox provides more complexity without actually being an inbox. In our organization, we have a space setup for open tasks, in other words, tasks that are not yet assigned to a project or assignee, etc. We can then move it to the respective project list for further management if necessary.

I think "next" is not really the same as next action in GTD because its focused on due dates. In GTD you can simply add a tag "next action" and this task should be visible in "next".
The problem with CU: you cannot filter a combination of and/or which is needed for a own custom view. So at this state GTD is not usable in CU 2.0.
It needs some filter for the Inbox and/or options what "next" means. The same time the filter must be more flexible and allow and/or in combination (Afaik this in progress?)

We should definitely be able to organize the inbox tasks the way we want. You want to put the task you are working on at the top. Then the next below that. I know you can do this by adding a time but sometimes you don't want to do that because it doesn't make sense. Please add this necessary feature as soon as possible :)
Do you want this too? Please also upvote the separate request by going to this link: https://feedback.clickup.com/feature-requests/p/ability-to-organize-tasks-in-inbox

How are the tasks being sorted in the today part inbox right now? I don't see the logic. I would like it be sorted by space, folder, list.

Prefer it not to be compulsory to have a date for reminders. Would go a long way to satisfy GTD folks who just want to get things out of their head and organise later.

A true Inbox should gather all new tasks, bookmarks and notes that need to be reviewed, assigned, etc. So I think that the "Inbox" feature in ClickUp is wrongly named. It should be named "My tasks" or "My agenda" or something like that. And there is a gigantic need to have a default true Inbox project in ClickUp that gets all unassigned tasks and things that could be useful but there was no time to process them.

I'm finding it really tricky to use the Inbox feature for anything. Even though I love the addition of the quick-add popup and its keyboard shortcut (and love 2.0 in general), my biggest pain point is still the need for a proper inbox.
I have some theories as to why Inbox is not working for my workflow (which I don't think is too unusual); maybe this will resonate with some others.
I think that at the moment the division between reminder and task is keeps the Inbox from being suited to quickly adding tasks for later processing.
- The ability to add without selecting a list first is a great first step.
- But, the lack of the ability to add a description means that there are always going to be things that I need to quickly put in the Inbox but can't (e.g., there's no way to handle adding things like a long snippet of code or text content that may be an essential part of the item I'm adding). And this means that I have to make a choice (between adding as a reminder or as a task) every time I want to add something to ClickUp, which makes using the Inbox a lot less seamless than just adding everything as a task.
- I can see why reminders default to the current date, but the fact that a date is required and carries over when converting to a task adds a tedious extra step for me—if I'm adding a reminder I'm not assuming that it's going to be due today (or have a due date at all yet), so I have to remove or reassign all the due dates every time I convert a reminder to a task.
- The lack of multi-select compounds this—if I add several reminders with the intent of converting them to tasks, I then have to process them one by one to change/remove the due dates.
Jan Dvořák
Evan: I personally don't mind reminder defaulting to today's date, because I use them for items I need to process later and in Today section I have them to work on them, but I admit that description field would make a huge difference. I imagine that this will be added together with the option to e-mail "tasks" directly into Inbox instead of a list (which is already Planned - https://feedback.clickup.com/feature-requests/p/forward-emails-directly-into-new-inbox-20), because the lack of description would really be contradictoring the effort to enable e-mailing into Inbox. What I would like to see is (maybe) filtering (at least limited) and (definitely) sorting - ideally within groups, because sorting by priority and/or space within each group (Today, especially), would do miracles to me.

Would be great to be able to rearrange tasks - This is a couple minor changes to be the best personalised organisation view
